Well once again, this thread wasn’t about tonight - and it’s not a thread about convincing anyone he can - it’s about if he’s going to do it, how he’s going to do it. And why not - he’s the best candidate we might see in a while, and it’s great for the sport (as evidenced by a full house tonight).
My guess is that the next time we see Jakob target a 1500m, we see a second faster through 800m (somewhere in the 1.50.5 range as opposed to 1.51.5) and then he will try and execute the final 700m as he did tonight. And probably then we will get a better idea if this will ever happen.
I’m in this thread stating I think he has a 30% chance lifetime to do this. That’s hardly over optimistic or fan-boy’ish. But as I’ve also said, it’s a fun and great discussion about elite running which really is what this message board was intended to be.
I’m not sure even Jakob himself would say he has much better than a 50% chance of breaking this record ever, and he seems certain he can’t this year. Do you think he’ll try to run super fast again before Budapest, like in Monaco, or not bother? Will he try for a very fast 5000 instead somewhere?
