Not trying to be a downer but I'd be shocked if more than 2 dip under 4:00. Coverage starts in 1 minute. Will this be the official thread (for all 6 of us interested)?
4 dip under, not too bad, we've been spoiled lately, has this ever happened before??? Sahlmen a DNF?
He was hurt. Idk why he decided to race, maybe to be with his friends
Great race, but a touch disappointing given the high expectations.
What expectations? Most people expected they wouldn't get the HSR. A 3:57.5 is perfectly in line with their progression. 3:53 is light years away from what any of them have shown over 800m/1mile.
Burns created the expectations with his talk before the race. Hopefully this teaches him a lesson in humility and respect for his elders. 3:53 is no joke!
disappointing for Burns and Birnbaum maybe, I don't think anyone watching was seriously expecting 3:53.
So why hype it up? Why do we let these guys talk like they’re in shape to run 3:53 and then just say “nobody seriously thought they could so it’s fine” when they face plant?
There are several posts in this very thread with people attempting to rationalize that 3:53 could happen.
big night for the Georgetown future mid-distance running tonight. Charlotte Bell (2024) with a 4:41 and a win and Matsatsa with a sub 4 mile to go along with his 1:48 indoors
Hate to state the obvious, but put these kids in 2017 shoes and we have a bunch of 4:01 and 4:02s. ....Just the way it used to always play out!
Just goes to show how incredible Webb and Ryun actually were. ....Ryun could've closed that race in 53.xx! Can you imagine if he had a Sowinski, mondo track and modern shoes!?!

Because racing really gets started at that point and he did not want to influence the racing, positioning and tactics. He respected them and got out of their way
Barely caught the race. They must have asked Sowinski for 59 mids instead of 58 mids? I found that to be anticlimactic.
I think they asked for the 58's but Sowinski always looks behind himself to make sure he's not gapping the people he's pacing and you saw him slow it up around the 200-300 mark because he was getting a few strides ahead. The field wasn't going with him so he slowed it a touch like a good pacer does
The class of '23 is pretty solid but I don't think there's anyone on the level of Colin Sahlman from last year. And he 'only' ran 3:56 so it was always ridiculous for anyone to suggest that 3:53 was possible.
