I had these picks pretty close! Natalie Cook exactly -- I knew the Texas native would exceed expectations. OTOH I didn't know Billah was gonna crash and burn. If she had performed better, it would have put OK State in second.
Valby did nothing wrong (except maybe corners). Tuohy won, so she was right as well, but I think it was more risky than necessary, she should have tailed Valby right away.
Tuohy ran smart and controlled. Not sure what was risky about it at all. She blew by Valby which is what you want to do. She gave no help/pacing assistance. If she tailed her, you’ll see on occasion runners who by their own telling don’t have a kick find something .
You don't want anyone to get an 11 sec. lead in such a relatively short race. Hindsight is 20/20 and it worked out but it was more risky than tailing Valby right away
Seriously; it's 2022 and they can't get this right. Drone shots are nice but you're really missing the intensity if you can't see them close up. Ridiculous.
State HS races have better video quality than that. The days of valby running 3-4 days a week need to end.
Just got second in the country and we already have guys on here saying she's training the wrong way. Classic LetsRun.
Seems like you could easily save 3.3 seconds by running the shortest distance…
Silly line of thinking. Seems Tuohy could’ve easily shave 0.1 if Valby was right beside her down the straight. Times aren’t achieved in a vacuum. Great run from both athletes.
Great race, wasn't sure Tuohy would catch her but fair play to her. Huge ambition almost paid off for Valby. They will both be stars.
Valby ran great; I'm always impressed when people go out and do what they need to do to win it, even if they don't pull it off. Both she and KT ran the races that were right for them.
Very true...Valby was much better than I expected on the hills. She gave herself a chance to win, and all the credit to her!! Tuohy crushed it though. I thought she left it too long, but once she broke away from the pack she was flying.
You have to race as if the normal rules apply. Valby went out too fast and overestimated her strength on a tough course and Tuohy was smart enough not to go with her. If Valby was so strong she could have stayed away on that pace then there would have been nothing anyone could do. And Tuohy's training all year paid off. She kept practicing hammering the last 1.5k.

Exactly! What the heck is Valby's coach thinking? Valby has been running the corners very wide all year and her coach never educated her that it's not a smart way to run. Unbelievable!

Actually valby ran a slower Time by going out fast and then dying
The girls behind her were all better served by running more even
Valby's a great runner but she's got to learn some strategy
She basically gives touhy the win... She's got to start trying to draft off other runners because she's not going to win with the strategy

If Valby didn't go out that fast she still would've lost and maybe not even gotten second. She ran the best strategy to give herself a chance to win. Tuohy is just better.
