While I do think Trump will stay active in politics, I recently read an interesting counter-argument.
It is that Trump wants money. Everything is to get money, with a secondary attraction to being adored by the masses.
Will being a political kingmaker get him either? Probably not. So why would he do it?
Trump might chuck the whole thing and try for something different, like show business.
Remember Obama went into show biz after politics- show biz and politics are close cousins and there's certainly a ton of money and adoration to be had from it.
So maybe Trump will show a lack of interest in party politics and just sort of fade away from the R party.
Just an interesting idea.
It's all about money with Trump and as soon as that dries up, assuming it does, he'll be out of politics for the most part. He's never indicated any willingness to back, with any seriousness, anyone he supposedly supports and that includes his children. So my guess he doesn't get involved much in any support for child or child-in-law to any great degree. Junior stumping for his sister in law just doesn't have the same affect although there do seem to be a small faction of other humans who don't immediately want to smack the guy as soon as he opens his mouth.
agip,
I would not base standard of living just on consumption patterns. Clearly on a variety of measures people have a lower quality of life, ie. drug and alcohol abuse, sense of community, meaningful employment, grounded values. Covid exposed the weakness in the economy, and people’s lives. All we have done is plug the hole for awhile. That is why I suspect tougher times ahead, but feel in the end that is good for society. A Fourth Turning.

Trump is going to do a multi-year world tour with Alec Baldwin

well ok if you want to talk about non-tangibles in standard of living, that's a different argument.
I'd say white HS educated people may have had the least improvement in quality of life, and any non-white person has had a massive increase.
Roughly speaking.

I worship Trump less than you do the career do nothing, clearly equally compromised Biden. In regards your perm-a bear comment, at least I am well read enough to known that Fed policies have resulted in declining GDP output per dollar expended the last ten years, and gets worse on each reiteration.

Less work for more money? I wonder who has supported lower tax rate on capital gain than on wages. I wonder who has tried to eliminate the estate tax. It's Dems, right? Because Rs are for "hard working" Americans.

Certain people felt they had greater "sense of community" and more "grounded value" when they could keep black people down and brown people out.

You are talking to the wrong guy if you think I approve of the Republican tax cuts of 2018, or you think I would be against raising capital gains tax. I am talking about the general ethos of entitlement. That goes across party lines.
Speaking of GDP: Carter's GDP growth through his first 3 years, was greater than Trump's first 3 ( No Covid!). So much for the greatest economy !?! What a Fraud ?

Sure. I guess that is why Asian sued Harvard for admissions bias. Bigger problem for Black communities is the Democratic machine that has driven a culture of dependence, but you are so wrapped up into thinking your virtual signaling is an actual benefit to those you champion. I bet you have likely never done anything of substance for minorities in your life, except posting on social media or going to BLM march. Clears some deep seated guilt, I suppose.

inflation was a problem in the carter period..while the official GDP numbers take inflation into consideration, when prices are rising fast you have to take all econ numbers, esp GDP growth, with a pinch of salt.
It's just too hard to measure inflation's effect accurately.

this reversed in the years before the pandemic
the fastest growing incomes were lower wage people.
But that ended with covid.
But another asterisk: Inequality stats are largely BS because they don't include taxes and gummint handouts and other issues. Best not to believe them no matter the source.

Worth noting that for those few years Joe Biden was in the wilderness as an ex-VPOTUS, he was pulling down ~$100k for making a speech. (Sometimes less, sometimes more, but was in that ballpark.) Making, say, 100 speeches/rallies a year might be helpful for Donald Trump, given the likelihood of liquidity problems in the coming years.

interesting question if Trump would be able to pull down that kind of money for speeches.
I think he might not, in this country anyway.
Most big US companies would have open revolts among their workers if company money were spent to have him speak. He is completely toxic.
Overseas, probably he would be paid a lot tho.

You mean, minority Americans like myself? I don't have any deep seated guilt about the Trump administration's attempt to strip my citizenship and deport me.
I am so glad the biggest threat to my personal well-being ended on Jan. 20.

How did the Trump administration do that? Be specific. What minority are you? How did your status change on January 20th?
