i agree with you that he will run, (see my predictions for him on page 59 of this thread) but even with him winning i think kenya will win the team title especially now that the world cross country has 9 individuals with the top 6 scoring, kenya just has so much depth.
doug
surely Kenya will win the team titles; however, my interest now lays in the junior titles in which I think Abraham Feleke (his countryman Ibrahim and a new Kenya won't give it up easily) and Veronica Wanjiru are strong favorites.
I'm looking past X-country for Kenenisa and wondering when he will DESTROY his 3000m personal best from his junior days (7:30.67)?
This is the first time I've ever looked at this thread, and, as a result...
I find it unbelievably awesome to read all those posts back in 2002 that stated Bekele would never TOUCH the 5k/10k WRs.
Someone asked if I said Ryan Hall was beyond amazing after his solo 59:43 1/2 marathon, what would I call Kenenisa Bekele "not of this world, omniman, greatest". I would love to see a fit Ryan Hall get pulled to his possible best 10000m (American Record) performance against Kenenisa, Tadesse, Wanjiru, Kogo etc!
2 X-Country races in the last half of January it seems like someone is changing his mind about World X-Country.
Bekele to strike again in Seville - PREVIEW
Friday 19 January 2007
Ethiopia’s Kenenisa Bekele will start as the athlete to beat at the ‘25rd Cross Internacional de Itálica’ – IAAF cross country permit - which will be held in Santiponce, Seville, Spain on Sunday 21 January.
Armed with a record budget of 500,000 € to celebrate its silver jubilee race organisers have assembled a star-studded line-up.
In recent years this event has become a watchword for excellence and provided some excellent races and more of the same is expected this weekend thanks primarily to the presence of the five-time double World Cross Country champion Kenenisa Bekele who will be competing for the first time on Spanish soil since his 2004 win here in Seville.
MEN – A clean sweep of medals for the Ethiopians?
Sunday’s 10,800m race also features a bunch of top-class Ethiopians in the guise of Bekele’ younger brother Tariku, Tarefe Maregu Zwedie and Abebe Dinkesa but the kind of shape showed by Kenenisa Bekele last Saturday in Edinburgh - where he kicked off successfully his cross country campaign with a solid 10-second win from Eritrea’s Zersenay Tadese - suggests that the Ethiopian ace, who is also the World record holder on the track for 5000m and 10,000m will be unassailable for his rivals once again.
On a statistical note they make up the illustrious list of recent victors in Itálica as Bekele took honours twice (2003 and 2004), Maregu was successful in 2005 and Dinkesa will start as ‘defending champion’ following last year’s top spot.
Tariku Bekele will be making his fourth appearance on Spanish ground in less than two months. His tally includes two fine wins in Llodio (26 November) and Alcobendas (3 December) and a runner-up place in Amorebieta last 7 January when he was out-sprinted by last year’s 10,000m fastest athlete in the world Kenya’s Micah Kogo.
As for Dinkessa, he suffered from typhoid fever in 2006 and that was the reason for his below-par season. Fully recovered now from illness, Dinkesa claimed a two-second win from Kenya’s Hosea Macharinyang - 6th at last worlds in Fukuoka - who is also on Sunday’s line-up. Dinkesa’s last outing took place last 7 January in Fuensalida (Spain) where he suffered a surprise 11-second defeat to Kenya’s 5000m specialist (2006 PB of 12:52.40) Edwin Soi.
Former (2001) World 10,000m champion Charles Kamathi is also in contention. A double winner here in Itálica back in 2000 and 2001, the 28-year-old Kenyan famously beat Haile Gebrselassie over 10,000m at the 2001 World Championships with his final and frantic 200m taking only 24.7 seconds.
The European charge will be led by Spain’s Chema Martínez and Juan Carlos de la Ossa - 2nd and 3rd in Elgoibar last weekend - Portugal’s reigning European XC silver medallist Fernando Silva and France’s Khalid Zoubaa.
has anyone read this entire thread?
Kenenisa assits Tariku Bekele to family sweep at Seville against good field. Kenenisa built a lead of up to 50 meters and continued looking back to assist his younger brother in the sweep!
After 5 years of domination X-Country its amazing that Kenenisa Bekele still have commentators and fans doubting his X-Country ability! B. Foster of BBC speculated that Kenenisa would have trouble with Eliud Kipchoge, trouble that never materialized from Kipchoge or Z. Tadesse!
A fit Kenenisa Bekele cannot be outrun in X-Country without some luck for his opposition like a fall, spiking, or black magic (LOL)! He has become unbeatable over the hill and dale.
Kenenisa Bekele Will Race 1500 Meters In Valencia, Spain On February 10
The Reunion Internacional Ciudad de Valencia will be the first indoor appearance of 2007 for two-time Olympic gold medalist Bekele, who holds world records at both the 5000 and 10,000 meters, and is the reigning world indoor champion at 3000 meters. His 1500-meter rivals in Valencia will include Kenyans Daniel Kipchirchir Komen, last year's fastest over the metric mile outdoors, and the rapidly-rising teenager Nicholas Kemboi. This will be Bekele's first 1500-meter race indoors, though he finished second in the mile at the Millrose Games in New York in 2006.
speaking of bekele, bezenesh (no relation) is not planning to run jan meda on february 24th or world cross country, so she can train for track and hopefully run under 1440 for 5k and 3030 for 10k, lets wish her good luck.

And exactly HOW is this on-topic?
i just wanted to get in a plug for my favorite runner.
is the meet in mombassa kenya on february 10th the kenyan trials? and/or is it open to athletes from other countries?

I'm sorry Doug, but that's really not too cool. If everybody did that, the thread would be mostly filled with off-topic spam.
Why don't you simply create a new thread (like the one you made for Michael Reneau)? Yes, of course it's not going to get as many "hits" as this one, but then you would actually be staying on-topic! What a concept, huh?
Are you lost? wrote:

speaking of doug, padilla (no relation) is not planning to run jan meda on february 24th or world cross country, so he can continue to enjoy his retirement, lets wish him good luck.
darn i wanted to see padilla and suleiman nyambui race one more time at jan meda, is kenenisa's brothr tariku racing jan meda?
Sorry just got to question this...
"The Reunion Internacional Ciudad de Valencia will be the first indoor appearance of 2007 for two-time Olympic gold medalist Bekele, who holds world records at both the 5000 and 10,000 meters, and is the reigning world indoor champion at 3000 meters. Bekele is not the two-time olympic gold medalist, he is a two time olympic medallist though?
