Well anyways I am not from Colorado but I can tell the teams and individuals are stepping up big time just like they have been in Utah. It’s not just California that is good in the West, it is also Colorado and Utah. I think Niwot will do big things come nxr and nxn.
For reference, Zane Bergen ran 15:17 and Cole Sprout ran 15:12 on this course. Chennyene Mountain 2021 team times were 15:31, 15:34, 15:40, 15:56, 16:13, 16:18, 16:34 (not sure if conditions or course was the exact same). Cheyenne Mountain 2021 is the best boys team Colorado has ever seen.
Niwot was 15:27, 15:45, 15:56, 16:13, 16:14, 16:21, 16:24. All it takes for Niwot to become Cheyenne Mountain 2021, is for 1 of these underclassmen that isn’t in the top 3, to drop their times by 30 seconds in the next month and half. (And there are a ton of underclassmen).
No way Cheyenne Mountain 2021 would lose to likes of Belen Jesuit 2023, Southlake Carroll 2023, Christian Brothers 2023, or any of the top California teams this year.
Their 6th & 7th have both run faster. The freshman with the 167 rating had an off day. He previously ran 15:17/181 speed rating at Desert Twilight. Has also consistently been a top scorer for the team outside of this race. The 168 ran 15:25 earlier this month.

Another shoulda, woulda, coulda. And you stating that you’re not from Colorado makes me think that you are. In any case we will come back here in less than a month and see that Niwot either doesn’t make NXN or places 15-19th.
Can someone in Colorado confirm whether course / conditions were the same at the Colorado State Championships this year? Compared to course/conditions in 2021 when Cheyenne Mountain ran it versus Niwot 2023?
For reference: here are the team times at huntsville park
Cheyenne Mountain 2021 -
14:37, 14:41, 14:42, 14:55, 15:12
Jesuit La 2022 -
15:08, 15:17, 15:27, 15:28, 15:34
Belen Jesuit 2023 -
14:38, 14:52, 15:20, 15:23, 15:44

Looking at this made me realize how easily teams in Northeast and Midwest can get overhyped. I thought Jesuit LA 2022was better than Cheyenne Mountain 2021. It’s not even close
Gr8t so they are already a Cheyenne Mountain 2023. Expect southwest to go 1-2-3 at nxn this year.
What's most impressive is that they all return next year and 5 out of these 7 return for at least 2 more years. In addition to this, their JV squad has a 15:52 average (15:49.30, 15:50.20, 15:50.30, 15:53.50,15:57.40, 16:02, 16:05.8) and also entirely underclassmen.

I think South and SE teams get overrated too. And over rated maybe isn't the right term, I think the real issue is that SW, NW, and to a much lesser extent Cali, get under-rated.
All I know is that Colorado is underrated. A team close to Cheyenne Mountain should wreck all these other teams. Let’s not rush to conclusion and just wait for nxn to play out. we don’t know forsure if the same logic applies northwest, southwest, or California and to what extend
Ethan Zuber beat Matthew Edwards earlier this season by 7 seconds. He is a heartland guy who’s best speed rating is 188, he ran 187 at his state meet. Matthew Edwards ran 188 at Colorado state meet. So it sounds about right. I think it is possible Cheyenne Mountain 2021 may not be as impressive now that it is 2023. Teams are probably just a lot better now. Either that or they didn’t try very hard at the state meet.
Dowling Catholic is a team to watch for. They got beat pretty badly at Roy Griak. But if Colorado is slightly underrated same applies to Iowa. Dowling Catholic is fast

That settles it let’s see how thing play out. Unless people want to admit that dowling Catholic is better than everyone. Nobody is over or under rated until proven so at nxn

Why would dowling catholic being underrated be the same as Colorado being underrated??
Because Matthew Edwards and a few other Colorado runners lost to Ethan Zuber an Iowa runner that won his state championship in only a 187 speed rating.
It will be interesting to see how close Niwot is to Herriman and American Fork at NXR SW. (if they are close at all or are we just overhyping them) Cause if they really are Cheyenne Mountain good they should beat Herriman and possibly American Fork too.
