so just to clarify - a married person having solo dinner with an opposite sex friend is ok; a married person having solo dinner with an opposite sex ex is not ok?
No. Neither is ok. Unless the dinner is a business-only relationship (and not a faux business-only relationship).
To clarify:
1) If a female client of mine (I am married of course) wanted to have lunch or dinner to discuss future business, that is ok, as long as it stayed business-only.
2) If a female I met through work wants to have dinner or lunch with just me, and there's no business reason to do so, then that is NOT ok.
3) If a former girlfriend of mine wants to have dinner with just me, that is NOT ok. I mean, there's a reason why they are FORMER girlfriends...I don't wish to have a relationship with them. BUT, even if I DID want to, it would NOT be appropriate.
4) If a female that my wife and I are both friends with wants to have lunch or dinner with me because we both happen to be in the same town for business or something like that, then fine. If said friend would call me out of the blue and ask to have dinner with just me, I would first of all find that very odd, and second of all decline.
