That's not an excuse. I've coached 4x100 m relays for years. I was always able to shuffle guys in and out whenever necessary. They had two days notice. They could easily got on the track and worked this out. Kenny went way too early. But even worse was Fred Kerly's hand off. He was jogging and looked back looked like a 4x4 exchange. USA track and Field would win this every year if they would take the guys who got fourth fifth and 6th at the trials along with the best starter. Absolute joke 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
Fred Kerley always does that, and as someone who has also coached 4x100 for years, i can tell you there is always somebody like that who just can't seem to grasp it for some reason. Kerley just shouldn't be doing 4x100s. I don't know if it's timing, spatial awareness, whatever. something just doesn't click with him.
Agreed that switching out shouldn't be that difficult. for the majority of these guys, the steps for their tape mark are going to be the same or within 1 or 2, and then it's just reacting. you are either athletic enough to be good at it, or you maybe just shouldn't be doing it.
I'll bet somebody like Grant Holloway would never mess anything up out there. awesome athlete. so skilled. he just has a feel for what to do with his body. Rai Benjamin probably the same. And Noah Lyles always seems to take a perfect handoff.
