We merged like 5 threads into 1 and sort of combined the titles. Rojo, who said Rooks had a 1% chance at a medal, started a thread pointin gout the betting odds on Bovada were 33-1 when the race started.
MY god. If that and Quicny Hall in back to back races doesn't make you proud to be an American, you need to have your citizenship stripped.
“Proud to be an American”?! lol. Jeezus what a stupid take. I’m only *ever* proud to be an American when our country does something to make the world a better place, hopefully for nothing in return. How we do in sports has zero impact on how I feel about this country.
Letsrun never disappoints.
What I think you look like:
blue haired white dude who tries to be a white savior for minorities: “Raw milk is bad for you, soy milk is much more productive in my ability to run Vo2max paced according to jack Daniel’s calculator…maybe Ritz and OAC should take some notes on what I do”.
Pure guts race! This man Rooks appears to be the most over-achieving distance runner I have ever seen in my life.
If you've been following at all, he's achieving exactly where he could be expected.
I've become a very casual track fan, and the steeple is barely on my radar. Purely the eye test made me believe he is over-achieving. Not to mention the massive PB of 9 seconds. Rooks racing down the homestretch with two spindly Africans (and all the others in the race)...."one of these things is not like the other"...
Not like we were counting on YOU to ever bring us international glory
Oh ZING! How special. You just put a former US steeple record holder in his place Mr. 18:35 5k PR dude.
Lols just reinforcing the point. We've run in the Olympics the exact same number of times, just as relevant. I don't care how fast you think I've run, at least I'm no pathetic, sycophantic jocksniffer.
We can only hope the women distance crew can do 1/2 as well as the men. 1500 still in play and 10k I'm putting my money on Emily Mackay. That's right, not Elle and not the They but Mackay!
I think Hiltz or St. Pierre could pull a Hocker. I bet seeing all of these upsets in the men's races is getting those two fired up. I hope so!
I'm expecting Kipyegon and Tsegay to start throwing punches on the back straight, so it could happen.
Times have slowed in the steeple. Rono ran 805 at a tri meet in 1978. Kenya is in a drought.
Waiting for someone.to.accuse.Eyestone.of doping his two steeplers. One gets third at trials but doesn't have the standard. Does a huge pr days later at a no nothing meet. Rooks does a huge pr in a multi race meet. Not buying it. Good coaching job Ed.
Flashback to Courtney Frerichs there. Not identical situations, I know, but in spirit the same -- an American distance runner taking it out to win, instead of trying just to hang in there and be close at the end.
I love it when our runners act like they belong there.

I need to have my citizenship revoked. I did enjoy those races but I completely fail to see how those races would make me proud to be an American. Am I just wired differently or do some of you agree with me?

You're American and they are American. Sports have these things called "teams" and "competitions." The winner was on the American team and won the competition.

*Correction, he was not the winner, but got second in the MF Olympics, so that's still a big deal.

Yeah I get that. But it doesn’t help in the sense of making me proud to be an American. Whatever pride I have in being an American is not altered one iota by those races. It is not easy to change who you are. This is who I am and it sounds as if there are some others like me. It is OK.
