I'm not a Sha'Carri fan, but she seemed to handle it well afterwards. She looked terrified before the race. As soon as I saw the look on her face, I thought Aflred would get her. It is actually a testament to her talent that she finished 2nd
Sub par starts, with no explosiveness and too high in her drive phase and then had low, short arms the rest of the race. No Shelly Ann Fraser, Sherika Jackson and Elane Thompson...and she still didn't win.
Oh well I hope the U.S. wins the 4x1, which they should if they get the baton around clearly.
She didn’t choke. She got outclassed. Wasn’t even close either in the semis or the final. Alfred ran seemingly easy and without any hiccups in both races. Richardson has to learn to get out of the blocks much quicker as that was the margin of victory in both races. Slow starts hurt Lyles as well. You want to be the fastest in the world. You must execute all segments of the 100 meters. Only Carl Lewis could get away with a slow start.
If you give Sha'Carri the fastest start in the race, she still loses, albeit narrowly.
I would guess that she isn't quite where she was last year, where Alfred has run far fewer races, and is in much better shape, and there now isn't a tremendous amount between them. Wouldn't surprise me if they continued to exchange wins and losses to each other...
Sha'Carri did pass everyone else in the field, so start apart, it's not exactly a terrible run.
I don't know that Sha'Carri choked as much as Julien is just faster.
Alfred is absolutely not more talented or capable and it’s not even close. But the difference is between the ears.
Ridiculous, just a ridiculous take. She lost. She wasn't guaranteed a victory. She wasn't mentally weak, she got beat by someone who was better on that day, period. You were a sprinter?

Yep. If she ran 10.75, your argument would have possibly more merit, but a 10.65 runner going 10.87 with an over .2 reaction time in the biggest race of their lives speaks for itself. But of course she had plenty of focus and time for her makeup and nails. She was even messing with her makeup before the semis (it was on camera) rather than focusing on her race. You don’t see any other top athletes who perform consistently doing that nonsense.
Sha'Carri did not choke imo. The 100m is an extremely volatile event mathematically. One needs to have a Bolt-like edge to consistently finish first. Silver is awesome even if she is a bit disappointed with the result. Reality is a thing.
She ran 10.87 when she’s in 10.6 shape. Rain let up. Almost no wind. Wet track doesn’t affect that much. It was a choke. You can see it right out of the blocks. She froze. Literally.
She needed to execute a near perfect race to win. It was not close to that. She has been struggling with her start all year. In the trials it didn't matter because she is just faster than the rest of the field.
Not getting out of the blocks quickly has nothing to do with talent. It's a mental error, so in that sense it is a "choke". even with just a good start she probably still ends up with Silver.
I don't agree with some of what you have said. She has superior top end speed. IF she was not so nervous or better yet dealt with her nerves, most likely she would have won with another sub 10.7 time. But we will never know. All we do know definitely: she placed second with a time that is sub par for her.
So 10.65 and 10.72 aren't close at all? Oh boy, just learned something new from an idiot. Alfred is just as talented and it showed.
In the 100M sprint they are not close.
This is correct. You can always tell on here who has actually sprinted at a reasonably high level, and who has never competed in an event under 800 meters.
And 10.65 to 10.87 is a MASSIVE difference. We are talking the difference between a top 5 sprinter all time and a not even top 50 sprinter all time.
It would be a lot like if Usain Bolt got hurt in Berlin hypothetically speaking, but then Tyson Gay choked and went 9.90. Sure, it’s a good time, but not for him. Hopefully that helps some visualize what happened today a little better
Richardson was down .08 out of the blocks, Lost another .07 to Alfred in the first 35m, and then raced her EVEN the last 65m..
Richardson has always been a poor starter and losing the first 35m (to the reigning World Champ at 60m) was no surprise. Giving away .15 in the first third of the race, however, is suicide. Against the best sprinters, you will not make that up. To her credit, Alfred gave nothing back.
Silver is not a failure. Just a disappointment. If Richardson cannot improve that start, Gold will be tough to come by.

At Worlds last year, she also ran past every single person in the field and ran 10.65 with a somewhat similar start. She ran 10.87 today after coming in with a 10.71 from trials that she ran waving thru the line. To run 10.87 in the finals on the biggest stage can only be down to nerves as it is a mediocre time for her. I feel sorry for her. Another dream delayed for here, but a celebration for Alfred. Such are the vagaries of life...

One fact some are ignoring is that Sha’Carri’s start for her 10.65 was also below average. The reaction to the gun was .07 better than today, but her drive was poor and she was in 3rd or worse for a lot of that race.
She did not come to win today, plain and simple, and ran into an athlete that did. She is very lucky the field wasn’t all there or she wouldn’t have medaled at all.
