That's interesting. I guess what I'm most curious about is whether the steroids are still present in meat after slaughter and cooking.
It looks like trenbolone has a half life of 1 day, which means that the animal will have metabolized 50% of the dose by 24 hours after injection. The USDA also says "Certain steroid hormones have been approved for use at very low concentrations to increase the rate of weight gain and/or improve feed efficiency in beef cattle" meaning that they're given ultra low doses. This makes me think contaminated meat would then be quite rare (it would have to have been slaughtered in the perfect window of time - and why would you give a cow an injection to fatten it up right before slaughter?.
It is actually delivered via a long-acting implant.
I just looked it up, and apparently trenbolone specifically is widely used to bulk cattle up. I don't know why but given that fact it's very plausible that you could test positive off meat. It's a shame if that's really what happened as he's definitely in a losing battle vs. public opinion
True. That's why you steer clear of the very perception. Coz once your reputation is damaged, there is no return.
Erriyon could easily be clean, but I wonder how many athletes who are using also conveniently eat meat from unusual sources (ox tail from mexico?) every week so they have a convenient excuse if they ever test positive.
So now does it possibly make more sense why Katelyn Tuohy linked up with the Nick Bare supplement guy, to help peddle his ‘chemistry in a bottle illusion’? Maybe one day she’ll need Nick to vouch for her that a tainted batch came out of China.
Why wouldn't pro runners save a little sample of everything they eat in a baggie in their freezer? Then if they ever have this situation they can give the exact food they ate... if Shelby would have saved 1 bite of that burrito (and it was actually the cause of contamination) she would have been cleared. Pros will take the time to update their whereabouts every day, but can't be bothered to toss a bit of food in the freezer just in case?

There are concentrations that are consistent with incidental consumption. In instances in which the concentration of the prohibited substance is extremely low and the substance in question is also known to be in public consumption in one form or another, documentation of the source can corroborate that the presence of substances is more than likely from incidental consumption, as opposed an attempt at doping.
Another person earlier asked how Knighton’s case differs from that of Houlihan. Knighton had the bill showing where he had purchased the food, allowing investigators to interview the staff about their supplier origins and to test the product itself, which found levels of the steroid in the oxtail which were consistent with the metabolites in Knighton’s sample.
Houlihan lacked all of that. She could not produce evidence that she ate what she said she ate from whatever vendor to support her defense that her positive test stemmed from pork.
if you test positive but get this excuse and it's a competitive test do they still yank that result? because USADA made a point of saying, even as this round went in his favor, that they didn't have to yank the result as it was a non competition test.
the decision is 2 pages and basically name, rank, serial number. i deny what USADA wanted and lift his suspension. period. weird that USADA who had just gone after the man was then repeating his explanation unironically in their press release about the arbitration, almost "selling" the conclusion, which they had opposed and might be appealed.
i mean, does the DA usually walk out to the cameras after the verdict and say, "today OJ proved he couldn't have done it, gloves didn't fit, etc.?" first off the arbitrator hasn't even explained themselves yet. plus someone would usually at most say "i guess the arbitrator accepted his excuse, which was....." if USADA felt the need to posture as somewhat neutral.
The meat he had eaten was independently tested and determined to have the same levels of tren that he tested positive for. How does that make him guilty?
No track athlete would or could take trenbolone. It is a vile steroid that even many bodybuilders avoid. It ramps up prostaglandins, which causes inflammation and vasoconstriction. Look up "tren cough". You often can hardly breath on it. Find someone in the gym wheezing, and it's likely their drug of choice is tren. Your aerobic ability drops hugely. It really is just common sense!
Too many superstar athletes in the US seem to be getting off lightly, be it whereabouts loopholes or getting caught for using masking agents. Even Peter Bol from Aus managed to wiggle his way out. The Kenyans need to get smarter if they want to play this game.
