Let me end this thread. Sadie will NOT be eligible for the U20 Championships in track her freshman year. That is unusual because she is a year older than the minority of her grade. She obviously was held back for reasons unknown. In California she should definitely be graduated HS this year. She still an amazing runner, but her 8th grade record I agree should not count. But who really cares about 8th grade records. More importantly she should be a grade ahead of where she is currently. It’s none of our business the reasons she was held back.
I already explained the rules. Many states have a cutoff earlier than California. She would be in the correct grade in those states. So it does not matter when it comes to high school records anyway. Do you realize that Kenny B turned 19 at the start of his senior year. She will turn 18. Kenny B has a medal. Worked out pretty well for him.
I was born in October ‘82 and graduated May ‘01 so I was not eligible for U20 championships in track as a college freshman. This is true for millions of kids born July-December.
Dude Sadie is way old and it’s embarrassing going into college being 19. You’re literally mad because it’s true and she should not be competing in HS next year if she was in her correct grade.
There is nothing embarrassing about turning 19 August your freshman year of college. You avoided all of the facts in my post that pointed out MANY freshman aren't eligible for U20 track.
Zariel Macchia is born May of 2006. She is a junior. That is very, very old. I’m pretty sure New York also has a late cutoff as another poster mentioned.
I have a July birthday. I was 19 before I went to college.
My daughter has a MAY birthday. She'll either start kindergarten next year and then she'd turn 18 in May (when she graduates) or she'll turn 19 a few months before she starts college. Not that crazy rare.
