That isn't what the top athletes think. So you aren't a top athlete. The championship titles are everything.
I think Jakob and the other top athletes care a lot about the Olympics and WC’s. -They simple have to -if Jakob doesn’t win a WC 1500m he will be belittled by the haters the rest of his life. It’s just how the world is, and he knows it…
Saying that, I nevertheless side with “snowflakes” -Champs are often too coincidental when it comes to a superb performance that could define your potential as an athlete. Therefore Jakob winning back to back 1500m Olympic gold means very little to me (aside from the prestige, that is merely a formal thing, and therefore not properly real). -Kerr could break one of his legs in a car crash two days before the games, (or simply getting sick), and Wightman would maybe be just a little late in his endurance work to not being spent after heat and semis, and Nuguse maybe a sec to slow. Jakob would then maybe get an easy win -but does that make him an all time great (because of two golds in same event)? Of course not -you are not an all time great if it’s easy. You are great if you run fast!
Coe isn’t an all time great, IMO, in the 1500m -but he was in the 800m despite (only) two silver medals in Oly there. And Herb Elliott isn’t great because of his Olympics win by 3 sec -If I was him I would preferred silver in 3.35 to a pb win in 3.38… -Running is up against our own weaknesses and potential, not a random other person… A runners task is to become the best version of himself -if that makes you the best in your time span that’s just coincidental and random. One can be the second best in one’s heat, and nevertheless the second best through all times, and endless better than all the winners in the past..!
You just show you aren't and never have been a great competitor. Winners beat others. Winning is everything to them. They aren't interested in coming second - ever.

My achievements on the track were way better than my pb’s. So I was a “great” competitor. But I just don’t think that what running’s (mostly) about… But I acknowledge that your view is a majority view, and that’s just how it is…
The thing is that a 3:27 frontrunner is always going to have problems with a 3:28 guy(which Kerr is definitely atleast worth on his best days)who has a better kick in unpaced championship races. Realistically, Jakob needs to be probably close to WR shape to be able to snap the tether in a championship race, which is hard to see happening. This is always the issue for endurance based 1500 guys(they are one dimensional 1500 runners) they have to be so much faster than the next guy to win.
But I think the crux is Josh Kerr, I think his two mile might have given him too much confidence on his strength as we seen yesterday with the early attacking(yes he won but that might not be a good thing) as I don't believe Jakob will be as vulnerable to that come Paris. Kerr needs to play to his advantages and that's his closing speed off a fast pace. The 200 out attack looks ideal as usual with Jakob frontrunning. And neither can afford to let the pace slack too much as Wightman will be lurking.
So I think the final ultimately lays in Kerrs hands as I don't see Jakob being able to frontrun them off. If Kerr trusts his closing speed, he wins. If he tries to attack early, Jakob wins and if they both slack off the pace, Wightman wins.(sorry Nuguse fans)
Considering Jakob´s great rust buster/ season opener (it is by far the best he has ever had) even after coming back from injury I think that Jakob most likely will be a sub 3:27 runner in Paris.
And his speed is underestimated. When he is in top shape he is superior to both Kerr and Wightman (and any other top miler).
If you disagree about Jakob´s superior speed/ kick then watch DL Oslo and Lausanne 2023 before you come back to this thread.
He didn't. He referred to Kerr not "chickening out" - as though that was something he could be expected to do. Your partiality to Jakob makes you blind to what he openly displays.
Come on -he clearly acknowledged that Kerr is the best 1500m / miler right now / for a period. But he wouldn’t be Jakob if he didn’t do it in an arrogant and insulting way. Very much like you, Arms….
Have you watched the post race interviews? -Jakob clearly acknowledges that Kerr is the current best miler, and that he won the race in a very good way..!

Jakob clearly stated that he wasn´t the best in this mile race. Have you listened to all the interviews?
Will you come back and excuse your mistake to the Letsrun forum if I provide the link to you?
