He ran a bunch of rounds and a 1500 final after a long season. How about we consider that he was simply spent??? He's not some invincible god... he came out and dominated the 5k. You don't medal in the 1500 and come back to win the 5k if you are sick. He didn't know how to cope with this 2nd stunning 1500 loss and sought to quickly comfort himself with the sickness excuse. He doesn't know how to process losses and can't admit that others are better when he's soundly beaten, so he tried to water down the defeat. Pretty straight forward to a non fanboy.
He didn't underperform. He performed to his level at that time. No athlete is going to perform at his absolute best in every race - or they would never have a "best" level. They are athletes, not machines.
He was obviously sick last year, and it was clearly seen in the final stretch of the 5000m. Not "forced to be in bed 45 degrees fever"-sick, but leaving him a bit worse off. The doctor also was the first to say he was sick before the race(1500m). Is Norways doctor lying about his medical condition to give him an excuse before racing? Doubt it..

Fans have no idea that their favorite runners are also human.

He wasn't obviously sick. He wasn't necessarily at his best in those races but no runner can guarantee that, even when fully fit.
What a team doctor says is pr.
I would have believed he was sick if he DNF or skipped the 1500 final. He was as fit and ready as he could have been after rounds in the summer heat and a long season. He ran a frkn 3:29 leading most of the race... no, he was not sick.

Right or that they don't have the best kick in a certain event for example. You've lost when you can't ever admit the guy isn't the best 24/7.

He wasn’t spent at all -he has been through this doubling program multiple times before without being the least spent (exception: Doha 2019 where 5000m was done before the 1500m). What about taking a look on reality before you construct your theories..?

Your post isn’t coherent -you say that Jakob is spent (rounds, long season) and then comes and dominate the 5000m..? -These two things in your saying collide with each other..!

You aren't going to prove your claim he was sick. It is the weakest of all your arguments.

It’s not important to me that he was sick. I just like to give you guys some resistance when I think you are wrong, and see how well you answer… And I get to practice my English which is fun when sometimes someone (even my opponents) seem to understand what I am saying (but not agreeing of course..).
Jakob could be a failure, and fizzle out (mostly because of injuries). Or he can become an all time great, and even maybe The Goat. -Exciting and interesting whatever happens…
I feel that a lot of what we are discussing is yesterday’s news. -If Jakob doesn’t come fully back, or he only stabilises on a pb 0.5 sec better than his best opponents, well then we have a totally different situation (than in 2023). Then he likely will be terrorised in the champs like Ngeny and Lagat did with El Guerrouj…

Jakob didn’t grossly underperform.
The race went in out in 1:54 with no rabbits. Due to his lack of speed, he had to lead and ran 3:29.
In his 3:27, he went out in 1:51 and had a rabbit until 1200m.
It’s just hard to win that way
If Kerr had rabbit for 1200m, he could probably run 3:27 too.

Racing rounds after a season of running fast (and indoor racing) has an impact on every runner. They are simply not perfectly fresh for a final. In the 1500 Jakob has no room for error, that's just reality. If he doesn't have a pacer like Tim in a champ final, his only option is to take it from the gun to secure a medal or rely on poor performances from others. For the 5k, the pace was simply not that fast so it fell right into his racing style. Had they dropped the hammer and raced all out they may have given themselves a chance to beat him - but he's the fastest kicker in that field even with tired legs. I don't know why it's so hard for people to see that Jakob is just not that dominant in championship 1500 racing because he doesn't have pacers.

Correct... and sure, if he can find a way to run 3:26 solo in a final his chances of securing gold go up significantly. You can tell in Budapest he initially waited to see if someone else would take it and as soon as he realized they weren't he jumped to the front, but it was already too late to zap everyone for the final kick.
Sorry guys, but he was. He wasnt spent. You know it too but you want him to be frail. He said he was sick BEFORE the race as well, so your Logic of him making it up afterwards is no good either. It was clear from how he looked in both races compared to how he looked when he won the double mile + 3000m for any non-hater.
Wightman and Kerr were in the Tokyo 1500m, and Ingebrigtsen beat them. Each knows the race he needs to run to win. It will be fun to watch the Paris race.
So what about Tokyo? Since then he has lost each WC 1500 final. That suggests they've got his number. It's hard to see how he will win in Paris if they are fit.
It is not hard to see how any of them could win; most likely it will come down to who gets the best position in the race after 800m.
All three of the races, Tokyo and WC, were very fast. In the Tokyo race, Ingebrigtsen and Cheruiyot opened a bit of a gap at the right time, and Kerr could not quite close it. In the two WC 1500s, Wightman and Kerr did not let that happen. Wightman is much better at 800m than either Ingebrigtsen or Kerr, so bad news for Jacob with 200m to go. Again, Kerr was too far back The Budapest race really could have gone either way, but I'll accept that Ingebrigtsen was under the weather there.
Paris won't be a three-man race, and Ingebrigtsen, Wightman, Kerr would do well to remember that. I wouldn't be surprised to see Cole Hocker in the mix for the win. And we'll see who Kenya sends.

Your belief doesn't make it true. A sick athlete doesn't come second in a WC final. A sick athlete can't race.
having the fastest 800 does not determine who is fastest over the last 200 of a 1500 or elliott Giles would win everything . Jake Wightman is the only guy that is a 800/1500 type runner of the so called top contenders ( Giles the exception) so its only natural that he is more wired and experienced to run a faster 800 ..... Anyway I have been closely following this event for over 40 years and have never experienced such hype and anticipation over an Olympic 1500 except perhaps Moscow when it was really about 2 runners whereas Paris is going to be like an 800 and if you Make the final then you are definitely good enough to have a shot at gold. Of course Jacob is the favorite as the worst he has finished against the deepest pool of 1500 m runners in history over the last 3 years is 2nd . If we had a crystal ball then we wouldn't bother watching sport .
It sure is a great time to be a fan..... just enjoy the ride because this is a golden era like we've never seen before.

Kipsang and Habz are also good 800/1500 guys, but like Cheruiyot that doesn’t mean they have an extraordinary kick. There is some other element there outside of just the 800m speed for a kick. Cole Hocker ran 12.20 in the last 100 to close a 1500 which is astonishing but that is not due to crazy 800m abilities. Ditto what Geordie Beamish can do. The race won’t come down to just a straight kick and max speed but if it did you’d look at Wightman, Hocker and Brian Komen outperforming. As it stands in a really fast race (3:27-3:29.0) Jakob, Kerr, Nordas and Nuguse are the favorites. If it goes even a smidge slower, you can probably add Wightman to the top of this list. 3:29.5-3:31, start thinking about Hoare, Hocker, Tim Cheruiyot as now being in position to beat Nordas and Nuguse.

His Silesia pb run was nearly a solo run (he was helped in the first bend -got the inner lane, and had a little draft advantage of McSweyn (very little distance)…
