That happened to me, except the cops took my whiskey and not the cash.
I had $300.00 on me and a new bottle of Jameson when I was taken to the tank on a drunk in public charge. They asked about the money (cops think that large amounts of cash smell like drugs) and I explained that it was my rent money.
I got out after four hours (sober up time) and my money was returned but not the Jamey. I asked about it and they said it had been poured down the drain. The shame of it all! They could have at least drank the stuff!
Your anecdotal story aside, what happened today at Valhalla obviously had strong racial overtones to it. No one can deny that race has played a huge role in golf. Yet here was are.
You haven't explained what race has to do with it. Was the cop black?

I searched for "race Scottie Scheffler" and got this result about his "race" from the jail cell back to Valhalla.
It's amazing that one gets a story, which can be clearly interpreted i.e. pitch dark, cop in hi vis looking like security (no authority) yells at driver, grabs onto car to invite 'assualt' or the driver stopping , which he did in10m which if anyone here has actually driven a car, is 'immediately'. Yet you get so many different and very divisive responses here on LRC. If someone played pick up sticks, and the wind blew it all over the place, half of the people here on LRC would blame someone else, if left long enough turn into a modern Godwins Law, when Trump or Biden gets blamed at some point. A community searching for division
When I am bored at night I usually watch one or two of these traffic arrests on Youtube for low concentration watching. There are hundreds of videos out there of stuff you would never see here (in Oz), yet it is far easier to stop someone here, and breathalyse them.
Firstly, they 'have to have a reason for stop' (as in this case grabbing onto car), by which point they must think "I may not have a reason to stop another one for some time, so make it worth it" (maybe, that just came to mind). Then there is some argument and fiddling around for papers which we have never ever been asked to carry here , and now don't even exist anymore here. Then at some point, maybe the smell of alcohol, pot etc, they get the person to do the 'monkey walk' as one of the arrested remarked -love that one, then fingers in front of eyes etc. What, don't guys have money for disposable tips of breathalysers??
Then predictably the driver is arrested, most likely slammed to floor etc and in the summary at end we learn that the now sheepish officer has been suspended, demoted or sacked
The leading, so called most advanced, richest country in the world, but 'monkey walks' for determining inebriation level all the way down to inches, pounds and gallons. It amazes me.
It was 5AM and pouring rain. He likely couldn't see what the heck was going on.
Isn't that all the more reason to chill out and wait until he's directed to proceed? If you can't see we'll, it's not wise to start driving over medians at such a rate of speed that you hit/drag other people. Why not roll down his window or get out of the car to talk to an officer and explain his situation?
Interesting tidbit: Scheffler fell out of contention when he posted a 2-over 73 yesterday, which was his worst round in 266 days. It turns out he didn’t have his caddie that day because his caddie flew to Louisiana to attend his daughter’s high school graduation. With his caddie back with him today, Scheffler posted a 65. So, getting arrested didn’t throw him off his game; a high school graduation did.

Let's say the caddie was there for all four rounds and Scottie shoots 67 instead of 73. Six shots better gets him to -19 and third place. That's about a $600,000 difference in prize money. Caddies get 10%. Dude lost out on $60k to watch that graduation.
