FAVORITES: Gabbi Jennings, Marissa Howard, Olivia Markevich, Courtney Wayment, Kaylee Mitchell, Valerie Constantine. all solid and consistent, if they stay on their feet any of them could be in the mix.
ON THE OUTSIDE LOOKING IN: Krissy Gear - ran a terrible qualifier and barely made it, in her post interview she seemed so scattered, might not be in a good head space. hopefully with these next few days off she can fix what's wrong.
NEEDS RACE OF THEIR LIFE (or one of the favorites to fall): Allie Ostrander, Lexy Halladay, Maddie Borman, Logan Jolly

So you mentioned 11 of the 14 finalists.
Jolly ran 9:33.9. Running a perfectly paced race. Made it to finals by 0.01. I think you can exclude her.
Jennings stands apart. She closed in 2:55 with ease.
Gear also made it by time only. Her SB is only 9:24. I don’t think that she can “fix” anything in 2 days.
I’m not much better I am mentioning 9 out of 14.
But I am saying that Jennings is a certainty (well as much of a certainty that you can have when the hurdles do not move - ask Bor or Ellis). Jennings showed me enough. She is in sub 9:12 shape.
biggest surprise is Krissy Gear barely making it to the finals. she looked tired early and if not for her kick would have been knocked out.
heartbreaking for Gracie Hyde from Adams St. she misses advancing by .01 seconds. brutal.
Did you hear her post-race w Gault? Man, she sounded like she is not doing very well right now.
It seemed like he wanted to ask her why she had that great 15 earlier in the spring, and then looked so much weaker more recently --like, ask if she'd been hurt, or something-- but he was kind of afraid to.

Yeah, Jennings, Wayment, Constien, Markezich, Mitchell. I would think that's your race there.
And at least two of them post-race said they think it'll take sub-9:10 to win, and maybe pretty close to that to make the team.
Thinner at the top, w/o Emma, Courtney, or Quig, but easily the deepest field ever.
It seems like just a few years ago when Ashley Higginson made a couple of teams with like a 9:30, IIRC. (Or not much under. I'lll have to go back and check.)

Seems unlikely she'll be a factor.
yeah, I saw that. she doesn't seem to be there emotionally. just rambles nonsensical stuff. i know she's struggled with mental issues her whole life. she's talked about depression/cutting, etc... the kind of pressure in an Olympic Trials can trigger that stuff. hope she gets some help. maybe getting thru prelims will settle her down. a lot of runners say they stress more about prelims than they do the finals.

Yep. I didn't know all that about her history, but it really sounded like she's struggling in a big way. Hope she's got some support.
My vision of her is the super-tough competitor who blasted Tuohy on the last lap of the anchor of the 4 by 15 a couple of years ago, and then ran some great times in the last year.
You do realize that 3 of these women are ranked top 10 in the world right now. 14 women have run faster than 9:30 this year.
In terms of middle distance/distance. It’s actually the strongest and deepest. Who knows how many will be ranked in the top 10 and top 25 after the final.
Also, a 9:33.92 was not fast enough to make it to the finals this year
Agreed. No sub 9:00 this year. But we may have 3 sub 9:10.
Funny when people make bold statements which end not just being incorrect but the opposite of the truth. I didn't realize how strong the US was in the steeple until after reading these comments. Looks like the 10K may be the weakest. The 800 is not nearly as good as I thought.
