You have a wild imagination. No, it's NOT two meets. It's only one meet.
And how is it possible that you have made so many posts in this thread claiming to know what you're talking about and you haven't even bothered to look at the meet schedule? The high school races and the professional races are interspersed. It's not high school runners early and professional runners late.
So no, nobody will be claiming that "it's two different meets".
I wasn't trying to pretend that I know what I'm talking about, sorry if it came off that way. We had someone that was just so certain that she would lose her CIF eligibility but I just don't see it as fact yet. Just trying to get some rules clarification. Also I am sure they can still change the meet schedule for a meet that hasn't happened yet.
They definitely won't change around the entire Sound Running meet just for Engelhardt. And I don't know the CIF rules in very specific detail myself either. But I do know what Sean Brosnan said last year. He said just one pro/college race for Lex and Leo and then they were kicked out of CIF races for the rest of the season. Maybe he was wrong, I don't know.
I'm still trying to find something online where Engelhardt has gone into more detail about this. All I can find is that she is running the Sound Running meet. I haven't seen anywhere where she said that she wasn't planning on running any races for her school this spring season.
If we don't have clarity by the time the Sound Running meet happens, I'll talk to either Engelhardt or her coach while I'm there and see what they have to say.

I just spoke to HS coach in the HS Southern Section and she said the Ventura coaches were most likely unaware of how the rules work. They will be made aware of these rules now. She thinks Sadie will have to pull out of Sound Running or run the HS section for no violation to occur. She knows of coaches who have reached out to CIF and they agreed that Sadie can not run Sound Running or any other open or college race. There has been many recent California runners forced to give up their eligibility and no way they make an expected for anyone runner when the rules are very clear and have been sent out and established.

Well I spoke to the Ventura coach directly and I repeat: “she is running Sound Running and she is running CIF”. They’ve done their homework and the matter is settled. This situation does not need any more mis-information from curious bystanders.

It’s settled Sadie has to give up her eligibility if she runs. Its a clear violations and CIF has responded with those words

You guys realize Bye Bye CIF is the 430 Miler who was impersonating Leachman on another thread. Guy has no idea about anything.
part of me feels high-school kids, regardless of how good they are, should enjoy high-school, chase records, get state titles with their teams.
But then I have to admit, I’m in CA and I despise the CIF with its 10,000 rules, its closed mind, its inability to be flexible. Who cares if she runs a pro race at sound? Nobody. Seriously. No one. It just doesnt matter.
Why are there 7000 rounds to get to the state meet? Why is the 3200 in these rounds run at the hottest time of day? I hope more and more kids just shrug it off and compete where they want in CA. And then host their own meets with other highschools. Forget the cif. We don’t need you. California is like a prison and the cif is the warden but everyone knows who runs the prison. The prisoners. CA athletes, go do what you need to do.
Southern Section started officially February 17th . Once she races the pro field at Sound Running she will lose her remaining CIF eligibility for HS according to the rules in place
I tried to tell you. Better go back to your CIF study guide and check your facts.
There are 2 main things a CIF athlete (ie Sadie) may not do unless they want to put their high school eligibility at risk:
#1) Compete in a Collegiate Track Meet (defined as one in which collegiate athletes are competing for or representing their school).
#2) Compete unattached in an open division competition at a joint sanctioned event
The penalty for a violation of #1 is being declared ineligible for high school participation in that sport for the duration of the student's high school enrollment.
The penalty for a first offense violation of #2 is being immediately ineligible for participation for 2x the number of contests in which the student participated. The penalty for a subsequent offense is being immediately ineligible for 365 days from the second infraction in all sports. The student may petition for reinstatement.
A CIF athlete may compete in unlimited outside track and field competition provided they enter as unattached individuals and abide by all rules applicable to unattached competition (see #1 and #2 above).
The exact definition of a Collegiate Track Meet is still subject to interpretation. Whether one college athlete in one event at one meet can taint an entire meet is not addressed anywhere.
The High School portion of the TEN was issued sanction approval through J Serra. Had the CIF known that a high school student with any remaining eligibility was to be invited to the open division competition section of the event, then sanction approval would not be issued. J Serra may have hurt their chances of obtaining CIF sanction approval in the future.
Sadie could have been fine at the TEN if there was no high school division. Sadie may try to take the argument that her CIF season had not started because she had not yet raced for her high school this season, but that argument will likely not stand.
Sadie is also entered in the 800m at the Azusa Distance Meet of Champions this weekend.

this was my understanding of the rules as well. so, she wasn’t supposed to run at that dual meet. i assume ventura will be in some hot water because of that.
question: how would this affect jserras chance at getting CIF sanction in the future? leo young did the exact same thing last year.

Let's get a few things straight.
First, your understanding of a college meet is wrong. Every year for decades, Mt SAC Relays has had college, CIF high school, and pro runners. And no CIF runners have ever been banned from anything.
Second, Sound Running has had high school races along side pro races for several years. And no CIF runners have ever been banned.
Third, the only issue regarding high school runners and pro runners in the same meet, is that a CIF runner is required to run in one of the high school races and not in one of the pro races. Sadie ran in the pro race. Any potential violation would only effect Sadie, and wouldn't effect any of the high school runners who ran in the high school races.
You are just making things up for the sake of posting something.
Anyone else find this entire discussion very stupid? Arguing the nuances of some idiotic high school eligibility rule? I hope Sadie gets an attorney and sues CIF should they rule her ineligible

Stupid and funny that all these posts are speculating without any idea what communication may or may not have already taken place between Sadie and CIF.
The only thing I’ve conclusively learned is the rules are unclear and nobody really knows jack.

Yes, the CIF rules are stupid. But the effects of the rules are real. The rules determine whether or not Sadie can compete in major meets like Arcadia and the California state meet.
So far we have no clarity as to what meets Sadie is and isn't eligible for.
She ran the meet of champs at apu yesterday. How was she able to do this? To be clear, I feel she should be able to and I too think hs kids should be able to run unattached track meets. CIF is a joke that hates its own athletes. BUT, I thought the sound meet cost her the eligibility?

And the results show her representing Ventura, doesn’t she have to run unattached? What is the purpose of this rule in the first place? Great 800m race race in a huge PB.
