Alabama got into NCAA as a team, how much will this force Doris to stay back and drag Heidi like she did at South Regionals? If Doris have ANY chance to win she must be free to make moves without pacing her teammate.
It won't hold them back, they never run with the rest of the Alabama pack. Doris will follow her instinct... She amd Tuohy will pack up and chase Valby, Hilda will stay as long as possible
.....
I know Doris will follow her instructions but why MUST she wait for Heidi. At South Regionals early in the race she closed the gap on Parker but Heidi didn't, so Doris slowed to run with her teammate.
Does the coach think Doris would break if she tired to shadow Parker the whole race for THE WIN? I don't understand why Doris must run with Heidi because Heidi is good enough to run on her own and place possible top 5 this year!

For those that still think that the "6 K" course at the Southern Regional was actually a full 6000 meters, here is something to think about:
At the World XC championship for women the distance of the course from 1988 through 1997 varied in length between 5.962 K to 6.6 K. In 1998 the distance went up to 8K. In 2017 it went to 9.858/10K.
In 1990, Lynn Jennings got a rare gold medal for the US beating Albertina Dias of Portugal & Yelena Romanova of Soviet Union. The course that year was a full 6000 meters and Jennings winning time was 19:21. During that time period Jennings was one of the best XC runners in the world winning 1990 through 1992. Jennings time would have taken 27th place at the South Regional.
In 1997, Deratu Tutu of Ethiopia won the gold on a 6.6 K course with a time of 20:53, beating Paula Radcliffe of the UK and Gete Wami of Ethiopia. Tutu's winning time is roughly equivalent to a time of 19:00 for 6000 meters. That time would have taken 12th place in the South Regional.
I know it is XC and as much as some of you like to do so, times from one course can't be compared to times from another course. That said, do you honestly believe that collegiate cross country runners in the US will be putting up times that are far superior to the best XC runners in the world, even though we're also talking about different time periods?
Even taking into account that outside of the US, XC runners in other countries are not obsessed with fast times like XC fans are here and the courses are probably more difficult, it still does not seem feasible.
XC fans in the US need to lose their obsession over time.
You are a loser. Attacking an athlete whom you never met and will never achieve her level of success. You do all of this under an anonymous name, such is the level of your cowardness character.
Katelyn, Parker, and Doris all are the favorites for the title. In my opinion I honestly wouldn't be surprised if either of them won. Never has there been 3 female individuals with such an overwhelming presence over the field.
No Sir you are the idiot because nothing in your post suggested you were just being cynical . Here's a novel idea how about actually contributing something to the discussion instead of posting cynical uselessness hmm.
Topic is Katelyn, Parker, Doris, and Hilda and their runs at Regional and chances for NCAA X-Country title
Don't know but I sure NEVER heard of any Kenyan named Doris or Hilda.
Anyone have a logical reason why the coach is having DORIS stay back to pace HILDA instead of allowing her to ATTEMPT to run right off Parker's back?
Well one reason is the regional meet was pretty meaningless as far as title goes. At the SEC meet Hilda fell off the pace first and Doris held on for quite a while longer. So I'd say your premise was wrong.
It was roughly 250m short if tangents were run properly. I ran it the day before. Sometimes you just run out of room when creating a course.
Everybody should keep in mind that being a little short doesn't change the points or places. This is cross, not track. Nobody should care what the times were.
The NCAA says it was 6000 meters. It was 6000 meters. It is amazing at how much it bothers people that the times were too fast when times don't matter.

some of us try to assess how all runners stack up against each other (and are not just fixated on one runner!) So understanding shy a group of runners all reportedly run fast (or slow) times matters, and trying to figure out an adjustment matters.

Ask any of us girls that ran that race to show you the Strava distance on their watches and they will easily tell you that the course was short.
