Well, if he wins the 1500m at next year's OG he will join Coe as the only 2 time winner. At the age of 23. If he doubles and wins the 5k, he will join El G and Paavo Nurmi as the only winners of that double (I believe; male only).
What a stupid post. "If" he does this and "if" he does that. He might also be the first runner on the moon - "if" he goes there.
I know. Jacob winning the 1500m at the 2024 OG is such a long shot.
He is the 4th fastest 1500m runner in history, he is the Olympic champion and has two Silvers from the world champs - at 22 years of age. He is a great 1500m runner, for sure. Coe is one of the greatest 800m runners in history - despite finishing 3rd, 2nd, 2nd, 2nd at the biggest champs in 78, 80, 82, 84.
Coe is not one of the best of the best championship 800m runners because of his record. You’d put him in a second tier with Joaquin Cruz below Rudisha and Kipketer. Same as you’d put Jakob in a second tier of 1500 running with Lagat/Ngeny/Cram/Tim below Morceli/El Guerrouj/Coe for now. I’ll leave Kiprop out due to doping. Jakob has a chance to jump to the top group but he needs 2 golds.
96 for El G is like 19 for Jakob and he fell. He won in 97, 99, 01, 03and 04. So he did what Jakob has not going 5/6 after his first year as a contender. Jakob is at 1/3.
And on two occasions he wasn't even on the Wightman or Kerr level. The arguments here either excusing his losses or inflating his achievements are hot air. He is a good but not great 1500 runner.

No you heard the guy, being 4th fastest of all time, olympic gold, two WC silvers, Diamond league total winner is not great! He is more or less just a bum. Hobbyjogger status! Armstronglivs sets the rules.

Without any doubt is Coe one of the all-time greats over 800m - despite his weak championship success.

Coe was far better over 800 than Jakob is over the 1500. But simple minds, like yours, come to simple conclusions.
You have just dispensed a series of insults at me while accusing me of the same thing. You are a ph*qing moron. That isn't an insult; it is a statement of fact.
You are like a monkey flinging poo at zoo visitors. What a sad existence, monkey.
Regardless of what you think an athlete would prefer, a world championship title is - as it says - the best in the world, as is an Olympic title (and not all eligible athletes compete in the Olympics either, for a variety of reasons). At a global level, Jakob has shown repeatedly that he hasn't been the best where that was what the competition decided.
Of course you like Tsegay - you make a point of expressing your partiality to women runners. It isn't difficult to see why a fantasist like you would.
No athlete, absolutely no athlete would skip the Olympics if not for injury or something like that. The Olympics are more important than the World champs, everybody apart from you knows this.
How many times you will repeat that JI has been 2nd in the last two World champs 1500m finals? He's not the 1500m dominator.
I'm generally more interested in the men's races, so you are wrong also here, like in almost all of your statements. Tsegay is my favorite female athlete, which is yours?
I am discussing Jakob as a 1500 runner, not what he achieves over any other distance. Over the 1500 he has been shown to have his limitations, both historically and amongst his peers.
The point about the Olympics v the World Champs is not which you think has greater importance but that the level of competition is the same - it is global in both instances.
I am not interested in the sport the way you are because I don't support doped sport - which it is.

Among his other achievements,1:41.73 in 1981 is hard to argue with. Many years later Rudisha's brilliant record is not even a second faster.
Oh I agree but Jakobs 3:27 is also great but as you’ve acknowledged both guys scuffled in championship races. Coe’s times were more legendary in their time, I give you that for sure.

I see you left out 1995 and 2000.
AS of 1997, El G was also 1 of 3 at the age of 22.
After 2000 El G was 0 for 2 at the OG.
Yet clearly El G is the top 1500m guy of all time (Morceli a close 2nd).
Jakob is on the path to challenge for the GOAT designation

Yes, he is just the 4th fastest in history, so "he has his limitations". So in the 5k he has no limitations? Some other athletes with "no limitations"? Mondo? Crouser? Faith? The "level of competition" might sometimes be higher in Zürich, Brussels or... than at the Olympics or the World champs. No young athlete starts now focusing to excel at the 2027 or 2029 World champs - but there are definitely many who have ther focus on the 2028 Olympics.
So, you have watched any event from Budapest? Without any prefered athlete - so what's your intention? Do you hope any athlete will fall (have you celebrated Bol and Hassan?). Or have you searched for Jack Lovelock and were immensely disappointed when you realised he is not running? Or are you actually watching with closed eyes?
The live experience in Budapest was fantastic - I'm sure you also enjoyed everything; am I right?
In an Olympic final virtually anyone can win. And they often do. Favorites are beaten.
It is absurd to pretend that Jakob winning the 1500 at the 24 OG is a crazy long shot as you have done
I am not saying it's a "crazy long shot". All I am saying is that anything can happen on the day. We have just seen that - both with Nuguse beating Kerr, and Kerr (and Wightman before him) beating Jakob in WC finals. The margins at the top are typically slim (except in the current dopers' farce that is women's running) and favorites can be injured. Or catch a cold.
