He's back with a 12:49. Will he make the team though as he's the 4th fastest Ethiopian this year? Did just beat Telahun Haile Bekele though, maybe another go in Monaco
One more note on the 5k results: Cheptegei running 12:41 with a 4:59.xx refutes the narrative that he’ll never approach 2020 shape again. In a straight time trial obviously he’s capable of a similar time today, maybe a couple seconds slower.
If these guys run the Budapest final the way they’ve been running these DLs, Jakob is going to have his hands full. But will they? Boy, the days of a guy like Chelimo snatching a global medal at 13 flat seem long gone. It will be such a surprise if the global final is won in the high 12:50s, low 13:0x with a burning last lap or two. Just seems like the best in the event are not going to let that happen.

With Moraa's PRs for 200 @ only 24.9 and 400 @ 50.44 it's doubtful that Mu would have any trouble with Moraa. ... Especially if Mu is already in front of her!
Mu has only faced Moraa twice, both in 2022, but she easily beat her both times.
... Doesn't mean it can't happen but it's not exactly bold to say Mu should beat her.
Jakob won in 13:09 last year. What would be surprising is if the final went really fast. There are no pacemakers as you know. Some of the big guns are probably doubling. Totally different deal.
Tough job for Ingebrigtsen. It will take sub 12:40 ability to win at the WC.

Depends in large part on the weather. They would’ve pushed the pace in Eugene but it was too hot. Assuming decent conditions, I think Budapest could end up being similar to the 2003 World Champs.
Just going to pop this in here, maybe deserves its own thread, but these last few weeks (and months) have been SO FREAKING EXCITING for T&F fans. No idea why it seems to have gotten so intense: shoes, faster tracks, having a few more studs (instead of 1 or 2 à la Bekele/Geb times), the extra drama that some guy from a small town in a country with half the population of Chicago is dominating the 1500, etc. The Jamaicans seeming to be slacking off, the American sprint lady with the dagger nails running well, the mystery of all these Gold medalists in LA seemingly coming out of retirement in June. In any case, thank you WA. Sir Coe, if this is all your doing, you're a boss.
There was no way Tebogo was going to lose this. He is 19.7 this year. Body position and balance on the bend were excellent. He even let up toward the finish. IMO he is as fast as Knighton
Surprising seeing so many Americans in this hurdles race one week before the US Championships
The womens 100m hurdles seem to be an especially strange event from a financial, sponsor, and competitive perspective. There are top hurdlers in the US that are still unsponsored, so I have to imagine theres a pretty big incentive for the athletes to get out there, get wins, stay in shape and stay competitive especially considering how tough the US trials are gonna be this year.
I'm sure all the US athletes in the race have come to a very calculated decision that it's better to get a race and some practice off instead of another week of training.
