So that race just confirms my belief if he's going to do it, how he's going to do it. A second per lap over the first 800m was really the difference there. The third lap and final 300m were exactly what I would imagine.
Let's see what happens the rest of the season.
Great runs by the whole field - especially the other Norwegian kid who also just broke 3.30. Epic stuff
No he is not. You can see by the last 100 meter that the guy is unbeatable for now. He had so much in the tank and said: "That was easy" seconds after he finished. Im 100% sure we will see 3.26,9 this year by Jacob unless he is injured or sick

Yes if you drew this up again hoping Jakob is even a bit fitter:
Swap Akbache for Sowinski. Set aim at 55.2/1:50.5 Swap Kiprugut for Munguti. Set aim at 2:31.7. I think 3:36.xx is in play. If he closes in mid-54s you get slightly more aggressive.

Well once again, this thread wasn’t about tonight - and it’s not a thread about convincing anyone he can - it’s about if he’s going to do it, how he’s going to do it. And why not - he’s the best candidate we might see in a while, and it’s great for the sport (as evidenced by a full house tonight).
My guess is that the next time we see Jakob target a 1500m, we see a second faster through 800m (somewhere in the 1.50.5 range as opposed to 1.51.5) and then he will try and execute the final 700m as he did tonight. And probably then we will get a better idea if this will ever happen.
I’m in this thread stating I think he has a 30% chance lifetime to do this. That’s hardly over optimistic or fan-boy’ish. But as I’ve also said, it’s a fun and great discussion about elite running which really is what this message board was intended to be.
3) J Ingebrigtsen is as vulnerable at 1500m as last summer in an international championship 1500m race.
&00m man can always find a negative angle!
Not true. I am a counterweight. Anytime aggregate posters go over the edge like a pack of lemmings, I state the reasonable. I congratulated J Ingebrigtsen a couple weeks back when he won a 1500m race in 3:32.xx with a sub-40 last 300m.
I know! I know! (waving my hand in the air) To break the 1500m world record he has to run it in 3:25:59 or faster. That would do it although it may not be that easy to do.
Still a spectacular time (although juiced, of course.)
Please stop with your kraptacular assertions. Your post is devoid of any substantiation and tells us more about you than Jakob Ingebrigtsen. If you have an argument, then present it, but please stop with your drive-by posts bereft of argumentation.

The "argumentation", as you put it, would take most of the thread. But everything that is known about doping says the very best sporting performances now can't be achieved without it. I have followed the sport for decades. I have seen what drugs have done to this and so many other sports. WADA puts track up there with bodybuilding, weightlifting and cycling for doping. Only the most naive follower of any of those sports would think the winners are clean.

Your arguments look good on paper but are a very different proposition on the track. Theoretically, many previous world record holders could have run parts of their best race faster - like Cram's 3rd lap in his world record. But they didn't. They never ran any faster because even the most incremental improvements, with all the coming together of the right ingredients (and I don't necessarily mean drugs), proved beyond them. Jakob may run faster yet but the distance between his present best and the world record may be a bridge too far. Maybe 3:27-low.

No need to take up any of the thread with talk about bodybuilding, weightlifting and cycling. Can you tell us in one reply, some of what it is that is known by whom about doping and the very best performances?
