Stop being logical. Logic is no fun. Come up with the most complicated and convoluted explanation possible.
Yup
But that doesnt change the fact that the US government apparently has no idea what the objects over Alaska and Canada are (aside from the confirmed balloons). In the past UAPs were sometimes said to be radar anomolies. Now we know they're real objects, don't know what they are or how they stay up in the air, but are apparently important enough to be brought down.
Watching the press conference, I know this shouldn't surprise me but the journalists are fighting for the coveted "Stupidest question covering ground that has already been covered award"
Because we're the leader of the free world. We also have the largest & most technologically advanced military and the big one: We're the only nation to have landed on the moon.
But because we're so primitive & shot down these UFOs instead of surveilling & studying them - these AI entities may decide that us Humans are not worth a first contact & simply move to another galaxy.
How do you know we haven't been studying them for decades?
Why does shooting them down make us primitive?
Maybe we have been studying them. Perhaps the Roswell crash in 1947 was an AI spacecraft & we've been reverse engineering that technology for decades now.
And the question is why did we shoot down the this particular UFO? Was there a weapon (biological, chemical, radiological, etc) of some sort detected in the object that was an imminent threat? Was the trajectory of the object destined to crash into a major city & it needed to be taken down? If this is the case, does the government not want to disclose the truth about the object for fear of mass panic?
Otherwise, why not surveil & monitoring the object & see where it goes & what in does.
It seems mankind destroys things that we don't understand.

The US govt can read road signs from space. Do you legitimately think they don't know what the objects are? As the earlier poster pointed out, they probably started scrutinizing their radar/sat data more closely as a result of the Chinese spy balloon hooplah and - wow, it turns out there are more of them than they'd like to admit publicly. The military prefers not to admit anything publicly even if the admission is innocuous, so don't expect a full report on any of these incidents.

If we're reverse engineering alien tech, then we're doing a bad job.
This particular balloon got shot down because it got spotted by civilians, was reported to the NWS, and made news headlines. The military wanted to save some face. That's it. There are probably tons of these things flying around all over the place - China's, ours, etc - but the government has no reason to annouce them, but I imagine that they are all being tracked quite carefully (if they weren't already).

How can you adopt this "government knows all" position given the massive flaws in our radar systems that were apparently JUST discovered? It is clear that the military is grappling with a phenomenon it doesn’t fully understand. We have known this for years. This doesn't mean ALIENS (although it is noteworthy that the head U.S. North American Aerospace Defense Command explicitly that he is not ruling out anything), but it does likely mean that we've been wrong-footed in a major way by a foreign adversary and we have no clue how long it has been going on.
All this eye-rolling and insisting that nothing is going on or that this is all a big distraction, despite a significant amount of evidence to contrary, is the exact kind of head-in-sand response that allowed these UAPs to remain undiscovered in the first place.
Someone in Congress apparently leaked a memo from the pentagon about the Lake Huron UFO...they say it was a small balloon. No surprise. Probably they are all balloons, sent for signals intelligence and to test out how to jam US radar/sensors.
CNN:
The unidentified flying object shot down in Canadian airspace on Saturday appeared to be a “small, metallic balloon with a tethered payload below it,” according to a Pentagon memo sent to lawmakers on Monday and obtained by CNN.
The memo offers the first official details of one of the three objects shot down in recent days that was previously described as a “cylindrical object.” The object crossed near “US sensitive sites” before it was shot down, the memo said. Defense officials also wrote in the memo to lawmakers that the object shot down over Lake Huron, in Michigan on Sunday, “subsequently slowly descended” into the water after impact.

As I said earlier - I seriously doubt that these things were flying around unnoticed. They were forced to acknowledge these instances because of civilian sightings and were as vague as possible in order to minimize international political fallout. You are free to disagree, of course. I can't prove it's not an alien spaceship. But since the tech that we're using to track these things has been in use for ages, and since keeping mum and watching the balloons provides more of a strategic advantage than freaking out and shooting them down does, it seems logical to me that the government has known about them but has stayed silent.
There's this thing called the internet where you can find sources besides CNN and NYT
So you don't actually have facts? It's kind of an opinion, right? Maybe even hyperbolic?
You just throw stuff out there... like the implication that I watch CNN (don't) or read NYT (don't)...
I do understand though... D bad... GOP good (especially Trump good)... does that about cover it wigi?
Well, if you do a search for "Ukraine out of ammo" you will see what he is apparently talking about. WSJ, NBC, Newsweek, etc all have stories about the lack of ammo on both sides. Now, how Bad Wigins stretches that to it is only Ukraine that is experiencing shortages and about to be overrun, who knows?
Basically, this war is stretching both sides' stockpiles, and NATO's as well:
Russia is using 50-year-old ammunition and dismantling breast pumps and kitchen appliances to get microchips it needs for tanks and precision-guided weapons, officials say.

A lot of this has been happening and has been reported for years but just never quite burst through the media wall.
This is a landmark story from 2019 trying to explain why UFOs kept popping up in sensitive airspace. These stories were out there, just not heavily covered so politicians didn't have to do much - they just let the military deal with it. The chinese spy balloon changed all that - it pulled Biden in and now politicians have to push the military to take action.

a graph from that 2019 story shows this stuff has been happening...a lot. And the military has known about it for a long time.
"Recently, unidentified aircraft have entered military-designated airspace as often as multiple times per month, Joseph Gradisher, spokesman for office of the deputy chief of naval operations for information warfare, told The Washington Post on Wednesday."
just to debunk the "little balloon" theory, that's not possible because of the massive expansion of balloons in lower pressure air. When launched, it would have to be like a birthday balloon to end up as big as a small car. No balloon that little can lift a car-sized exoskeleton of whatever material.
To debunk the "foreign" theory, look into how many aerial objects are launched by ordinary US citizens just for kicks or whatever. It may not be entirely legal, but in uncontrolled airspace the authorities can't go chasing after every one of them. All too conveniently, they're not going to even go find the ones they just shot down. That keeps you guessing and ignoring real news.
The thing over Lake Huron had nav lights. Obviously it didn't sneak from a foreign country right to near dead center of North America.

I doubt that (bolded text) is true. We know that the US government is not telling the public what these objects are. That does not imply that the Us government actually has no idea what they are.
ABC is reporting that they've got the Chinese balloon mostly recovered. But the other three are more mysterious. But maybe we'll be able to figure out what the big balloon was doing.
A crane ship on the scene where a Chinese surveillance balloon went down in waters off South Carolina has raised from the ocean bottom a significant portion of the balloon’s payload, a U.S. official said Monday. Officials have said the payload measured as much as 30-feet-long and had all of craft's tech gear and antennas.

1) Nobody thinks "the government knows all."
2) It is not at all "clear that the military is grappling with a phenomenon it doesn't fully understand." The fact that you (and me) are not being filled in with all the details does not in any way suggest that the military doesn't know a whole lot more than is publicly available.
3) No, it is NOT "noteworthy that the head U.S. North American Aerospace Defense Command explicitly that he is not ruling out anything." That's part of his job - to neither confirm nor deny anything.
Come on folks, stop thinking like children (unless, of course, you are in fact, children).
