Kiptum doped.
Kiptum doped.
Isn't Amane only a 2:20 marathoner?
The funny thing about Kiptum is that he was motioning Tola and Geay to pass him and do some of the leading. And when neither of them did, he decided to pick it up and push himself.
Did anyone else see Kiptum take off his watch and throw it into the crowd??
Shades of Naoko Takahashi 🕶️
Yeah I can't get anything to load on the app.
Not only is the WR in play but 9 women are on pace for 2:17:50 or faster through 30k.
Gidey and Beriso hit 30k in 1:35:24, which is 2:14:10 pace. They've run 15:47 for their last three 5k splits. Everything going to plan for Gidey, though I don't think anyone expected she'd still have another woman with her this far into the race!
Dang I missed it. Remember when exactly it happened?

Took it as a sign they were on the edge and decided to break them
1:41:34. Sub-14 5k split?
I don't understand how Beriso is still up there. She's 31 years old, her pb is 2:20:48 from 2016. She has run two marathons since 2018 -- 1st at 2020 Mumbai (2:24:51), then 2:25:05 to win Mexico City at altitude on August 28, 2022.
So to clarify: she ran zero races between January 2020 and August 2022, then ran 2:25 at altitude and is now on 2:14 pace in Valencia three months later.
It's not totally implausible that he runs 2:01. On his debut
Do you want me to spell this out for you bud? she's on the special sauce.
14' 5k, nice !

14:00 flat at 35k 👀
Kiptum channeling Obiri--shoulder-roll & massive kick.
Looks like Kiptum will break 2:03

There was an Abraham Kiptum who broke the half marathon WR in Valencia in 2018, but it was nullified because he was popped.
…Maybe it runs in the family?
Kiptum might run close to 28:00 for the last 10K.
If he keeps it up he'll break 2'02
