Here is your way too early 2023 predictions Women: 1st: Army 2nd: Navy 3rd: Bucknell 4th: Boston 5th: Lehigh 6th: American 7th: Holy Cross 8th: Lafayette 9th: Loyola 10th: Colgate
Men: 1st. Army 2nd: Navy 3rd: Boston 4th: American 5th: Bucknell 6th: Lafayette 7th: Lehigh 8th: Loyola 9th: Holy Cross 10th: Colgate
I say again. BU men are annually overrated. Not surprised by men’s results whatsoever. Even placing. Navy has multiple ballers and Army has one. It is not hard to be top 10 at patriot league.
If Boston had a decent coach, Boston would DOMINATE. They are by far the most talented team in the league but also may be the worst coached.
Mason ran 8:32 for 3k in high school, which equals 9:10 and has run 14:14. Malleck was Pan Am U20 champion and ran 3:47 1500, 4:07 mile, 1:52, and 8:11 3k in high school (equivalent to 8:47 in 3200).
Laudon is a 5th year senior who ran 9:12 in high school and 4:17 full mile
Murphy ran 4:19 and 9:25, has a 14:12 PR.
Aubry was the canadian u18 national record holder in the 1000m and is now a 5th year senior.
Hannon has run 14:26. Hammel ran 4:22 and 9:20 as a junior and lost senior year of HS to COVID. He has run 14:19. That's not even mentioning their current freshmen who are maybe even more talented.
So their top 8 should be the Patriot League 1500m champion, and 4 guys who have run 14:12, 14:14, 14:19, 14:26. Then they have one freshman who ran 24:04 at Lehigh and another who ran 24:11 at Lehigh. Add in Aubry who ran 24:16.
No new distance coach here! Just a new assistant very excited to work with a great group of athletes :) Credit to both men's and women's team for coming into this year with a seriously positive mind set after a phenomenal summer. AU XC trending in the right direction!
Boston will dominate both men’s and women’s races next year now that we have Christian Noble coaching. Home run hire from Gabe.
So 4 days after Boston takes 3rd at Patriots you’ve come to this conclusion? They say this every single year about Boston and it’s always the same result: they lose.
I disagree. Boston is good, but in terms of their history they are underachieving recruiting talent. By the way, these stats are not impressive. Navy and Army have had multiple guys in different classes that have ran 4:11 in high school and under 9:10 as well as under 9:00. Most BU internationals including the Europeans are coming over a year older and have been pushed by older “senior” level athletes or are part of a focused club, not the willy nilly US High School system. Where Boston has one or two of those guys, Army has had usually 3-5 and Navy usually has 4-7 of those caliber guys.
My final point is that BU has some decent track times, unfortunately 14:20-14:10 just does not cut it anymore. That’s like 14:30-14:45 pre super-spikes which is a dime a dozen at D1. They are entirely missed the point of XC. The academies dual frequently and become very good racers, not just good PRs but are consistent competitive performers. When BU gets that concept and adds 3-4 more players then they can start to win titles and push into the top 10 in the region.

Brady of Navy ran 4:23 and 9:48 in high school. Rome ran 4:32 and 9:50. Navy also has to balance a lot of other military academy responsibilities while Boston has nothing to do except run.
There is no excuse for Boston letting Navy put 4 runners in front of Boston's #1. There's no excuse for Boston running fast times at meaningless meets and then running slow at the most important meet of the year.
There is no lack of talent at Boston, it's a coaching issue.
Not sure Jordan Carpenter has ever had an athlete he recruited run well. He’s broken more people then he’s helped since he’s been in Boston.
Tough to watch but unfortunately talented recruits mean nothing if their careers are mishandled.
My guess is that Christian Noble will be named the head mens cross coach by years end.
Bet you can’t name a single athlete Carpenter has “broke” since being at BU. Every athlete on that team has pr’d on the track since he got there. Get your facts straight before commenting nonsense.
