I am not crying and I absolutely understand how good they are. I was at RunningLane and traveled across the country to take my team there from CA. But much like NP we went to State first and then did the postseason.
It is a public school. 99% of taxpayers in the district would be unhappy if they knew that their tax dollars were funding a coach who is taking them to events outside of the California High School league.it is like paying an AAU coach in soccer and paying him to travel with the team. Something seems like it will fall apart.
That’s my point as well. If he was a club coach and not paid by the school, no beef at all. They can choose what they want to do and as a club coach he would only have obligation to them.
In this case, as a coach paid by the school, his interest should be helping the school and the school’s athletes represent the school in school activities.

WTF do you clowns care where they race? At their level they are likely picking the races to give them the most exposure and opportunities. The only ones who might have reason to complain are the kids, the parents or the school, not you clowns.

Did Brosnan say they were going to take a pass on the state meet? There’s no reason not to run there.
You answered your own question about NP being 9:00 guys with different coaching. Lange had Stember and didn’t turn him into an 8:40 guy.
Stember was a middle distance runner with no interest in the 2-mile in HS or 5000m in college. He was in sub-4:00 shape when he was running those 1600m races with the super fast last 600m so he reached his potential. Your comment is similar to saying Ryun’s coach failed in turning him into an 8:40 runner and the same for Webb’s.
The NP brothers would absolutely not be 9:00 2-milers somewhere else. If that was true, 9:20 would be the new 9:00 in the U.S.
Stember was three times top 10 at CA state cross country championships, including a second place (that I watched), and ran plenty of 3200s with a best of 9:02. If he were high school age now and attending NP, he'd be an 8:40 guy guaranteed, as well as a sub-4 high school miler instead of 4:04. He certainly had the talent to run that in high school. Lange did a good job coaching him and got him as fast as he needed to get him - no criticism there. But Brosnan would have gotten extra out of him because he is just aiming higher than just winning against the guys. He's more Ingebrigtsen-like in goal setting, pushing the limits. Even if he's got his guys already beyond the competition, he's not settling for that.

These kids are the best in the country. No one can make them run circles at CIF. They should go to races best fit for them and the ones they want to run. It's not up to you or other California coaches.
It's Not your choice. This happens in sport all the time. It's not a surprise that an athlete will do whats best for them and find competition.
All this discussion about what Brosnan and his athletes are doing is premature. Here we are near the end of February and nobody knows what the plans are except for the 4 X mile at NB Nat'ls on March 12 which they already committed to. The NPHS schedule posted elsewhere on this thread shows that there are no meets scheduled for the NPHS track team on March 12, so there is no conflict for Brosnan to take his runners to NYC on that date. Everything else is just speculation.

I don’t recall other California distance stars skipping the state meet. It will be on a track so they will be running in circles, but they can work together and make it an all out effort. That’s exactly what they did at their last meet.
Sure, it’s not my choice but did Brosnan say they were going skip state?

But Stember went on to the Olympics. We shall see what these boys do.
