There are articles out stating, "Kenenisa confirms he is skipping World X-Country".
-----------
I don't buy that and I will be looking for him to race until the starting gun fires and the runners are off and running.

Tariku said,
“Today’s success has not been easy due to my tough rivals and also the tough circuit which was quite muddy in some areas” declared the winner. Asked again on his brother Kenenisa’s possible appearance at the next XC Worlds in Mombasa (Kenya) Tariku said: “He (KENENISA) is training well in Ethiopia but I don’t know for sure whether he’s going to contest the Worlds, MAYBE NOT. I think he is likely to run in Edinburgh (13 January) and Seville (21 January)”

Does anyone think Kenenisa Bekele WON'T defend his title at the World X-Country this year?
The event for "this year" was back in March, and he already defended there.
I think he will run too. The chance to show the Kenyans he is the man on their home turf will be too tempting for K Bekele to pass. The Kenyans will win the team title. Kenny B may take a leave after his win in Kenya but not before I don't think.
Ethio boy
I'm not going to bother finding the article; however, if memory serve the lot of you- Kenenisa stated late in 2005 and early 2006 he wouldn't attempt any world records. Late in the season he tried to get in world records shape he stated after losing to the Kenyan (I think Isaac).
One season in which he doesn't break a world record but still post 2 sub 12:50 5000m and you think his time is up. Don't be too quick to begin the ceremony for his successor when Kenenisa isn't half way finish with his career or improving!
Kenenisa plans for 2007 track season:
1. Improve his 1500m speed
2. Set personal best for 3000m/2 miles
3. Decide which event he will run at Worlds 5 or 10, small chance he will attempt both in 2007
2007 WILL NOT BELONG AND HE WILL BE DFITED IN MANY EVENTS
Edinburgh is stacked with top competition for Kenenisa Bekele. opening X-Country season January 13. He could very well open with a defeat as
Eliud Kipchoge
Craig Mottram
Zersenay Tadesse
are scheduled with more top elite runners close to signing.
Vipam.. are you crazy.. i was quoting an article from Ethiopianrun.org and it said that Dr Kostre said... 'kenenisa run too many races and did not progress in 2006'.. i agree that he ran too many races but i think he lost a 3races but learnt to win close races.
He lost to Songook (early) but then beat him in zurich and berlin. He lost to Lagat.. but beat lagat in a 1500 ...
He lost to Mottram.. but it was at the end of the season when mottram had the fresh legs compared to kenenisa.. Not even Mottrams mother would bet on CM if they have a race every day..
Anyway, In short.. i do think that kenenisa will run in the xc race. I have seen him change his mind several times.. but at the 2005 world champs he .. took a firm stand against the double... we shall see.
Vipam thanks for the insight on Kenenisa's plans for 2007 I had been wondering what he had in store for 2007.

Strong field for Kenenisa Bekele and will be a very interesting race. I hope DATHAN RITZENHEIN can surprise and hit top 3 in such a strong field!
I has to be a website typo no way Dathan would be required to run 9.3 and Kenenisa and Craig and company only run 9.2 km (LOL).
Why in the world is Ritzenhein running an XC race only 2 months after the NYC marathon? I guarantee he's injured before World XC.
The Ethiopian team will be in trouble if Kenenisa sticks to his decision and not participate at the 2007 World X Championships. Micah just defeated Tariku and Eliud posts a slightly downhill 26:54 10km win over Tadesse (Eri). Kenyan see the Ethiopians maybe be in real trouble?
When does Bekele race next?
total domination of kenyan on the junior and senior men. ethiopia will dominate women senior and kenya a clean sweep in women junior.
I wouldn't feel very good if Bekele brought it on our own soil. However, if he lost, that would be fair.
Since this thread is about Bekele annihilating world records, I strongly believe he is the man to take down Tergat's Marathon record if and when he decides to switch to the marathon.

Good picks for the team
Native Son
I think Haile may get the marathon world record. I don't know if Kenenisa will ever run the marathon but lets hope he will after AT LEAST 7-9 more years of track running.
Someone asked Kenenisa's next race: Edinburgh 13 Jan 2007 against a very strong field!
excerpts from
on Kenenisa Bekele's post Edinburgh X-Country
Kipchoge, the 2003 World 5000m champion, took the field along at a reasonable clip but it was Tadesse who made the first significant move, racing to the front with three laps to go in a winning bid.
Within seconds however Bekele - donning long basketball shorts after forgetting to pack his race shorts - covered the move and raced to the front.
Kipchoge briefly rallied but the Ethiopian was clearly less perturbed by the atrocious conditions than anyone else, and simply ran away from the field with two-and-a-half laps remaining.
Bekele even took time out on the final lap to stick his tongue out at supporters as he cruised to an easy victory in 28:14 and extended his winning cross country race sequence to 26.
Tadesse, the 2005 Great North Run winner, held on gamely to finish runner-up ten seconds further back with Kichoge crossing the line a forelorn third in 28:51 just one second ahead of Joseph.
Bekele said: “I’m feeling very well and I prepared very well for this race.”
But after claiming he lacked the motivation to compete in the World Cross Country Championships in the pre-race press conference he teased the media and his supporters by not completely ruling out a bid to retain his long course title in Mombasa in March.
*****“IF THERE IS A NEW CHALLENGE,” he said on why he may yet opt to compete.*****
Bekele’s manager Jos Hermens sounded an ominous warning to the rest of the world be saying the Ethiopian is only 80 per cent fit, adding “he is a little bit chubby and could have been more prepared.”
...
I said along that Kenenisa would compete his statement to the press last year and this year, media, and several posters. I would b BEYOND shocked if he didn't tow the line in Kenya.
