This was a slow rebuild week trying to get over the very sore peroneal tendon I developed during my half-marathon two weeks ago. Also, the air quality in California’s central valley because of the Camp Fire far to the north continued to be a big problem, although generally less bad in the pre-dawn hours. My week:
Monday: 26 miles on bike in the foothills above most of the smoke. A lovely ride.
Tues: 4-mile easy run followed by 54 minutes on bike trainer.
Weds: 90 minutes on bike trainer.
Thurs: 6.5-mile run in Tucson, where I was giving a seminar at the University of Arizona. 48 degrees at dawn, dry and perfectly clean air—wonderful! I almost wished I’d arranged to stay in Arizona longer.
Friday: 90 minutes on bike trainer.
Sat: 10.5-mile easy run.
Sun: Foot sore after yesterday’s run. 40 minutes on the bike trainer, then drove up to the foothills with my husband and rode 21 miles of rolling hills. I had a little mishap that involved the speed sensor getting rotated and going into the spokes, stopping me dead in my tracks on an uphill; I couldn’t clip out in time and had a zero-mile-per-hour encounter with the pavement. Bloodied one knee but did no structural damage.
21 miles of running for the week isn’t much, but it’s better than nothing.
SC gal, congrats on the record! That course sounds absolutely brutal.
Igy, nice job with the race and I’m so happy to hear that you’re out there again!
Like many other schools and universities in northern California, my campus was closed on Thursday and Friday because of the bad air. I still don’t know whether we will be open Monday and/or Tuesday. If I were wagering I’d bet on having the whole Thanksgiving week off, but I can’t yet take any action based on that assumption.
