This thread was originally titled, "Incredible development in the $612,000 Transcon Goodge run, currently ongoing" but the new title is more descriptive. The description of the run is here.
Never in my wildest dreams would I put myself anywhere near all of the amazing people who have run across a country or even a state. I was saying that in context to those than "only" run 5ks. Hats off to every single person who does multi-day runs/bikes/crawls.
Hi all, here's an update on another thread about the British runner William Goodge doing Transcon at the moment and some worrying irregularities.Namely that he runs at 150-170bpm in the first two days of his multidayers, colla...
Yet when recruiter57 joined him unannounced for 6 miles in the middle of his run, the hr and cadence remained the same as the rest of that day. If there had been cheating going on, there would have been a marked difference in those 6 miles. Someone please explain why there wasn’t.
Ummmm, because recruiter57 is in on the scam? How can you read this thread and not know that.

I'll take a stab at it: Because recruiter57 didn't actually do that?
Rather than make conspiracy theory stabs in the dark, maybe do a little leg work, check out the Strava, work out who ran with him, check his Strava for the 6 miles he did. Compare them and notice that there is no change in cadence or hr in RG’s for that time. So I’m still waiting for a sensible suggestion for how he’s cheating.
I suppose Will C would question whether recruiter was actually with him, but what day / miles on strava?
Will G already has a few hours during day 26 of the low HR under Will C’s observation. There were periods of other days under obs showing it, but Will C’s contention is that it a long way off what it is following his departure. In his reply to people asking him about it (maybe page 40), he suggests they did it deliberately to throw him off.
Getting a few more would force Will C to need to seek other theories.
I’m torn on this. I think the evidence (post day 26’s data) suggests Will’s running. Perhaps jog walking 50 miles per day with an RV simply isn’t particularly hard on the body if you’re well fuelled etc, even if you’re not even a sub 3 marathoner and have only run 2k miles in the previous year. Heck, maybe the extra muscle mass is somehow helping at these speeds / distances.
I do find the HR data argument curious, but I think it could be a quirk of how they conduct operations (although that still doesn’t explain why it consistently improved when Will C pressured them).
We need some boots on the ground in Springfield IL. Come on Letsrun! Get out there and get us som facts. If a guy is willing to travel from the UK, surely some Illinois runners can take a look. (Just make sure you wear a bike helmet in case rocks get thrown)
Any reason why this thread has never appeared as a “hot thread” on the LR suggestion list and neither Rojo/Wejo has ever commented? It has the most posts/activity of any thread in years, but is receiving no acknowledgement from the site or Rojo/Wejo.
Layout your conspiracy theory here.
i agree it's so strange. probably scared of litigation, there's no way they're not following it
Precisely. I am a 3:30 marathon runner and have run 17 days of 52 miles and felt completely fine, stronger at the end than the start. I have also run 70 miles a day but only for 5 days and no way could have kept that up. But like I say, I’m a very average runner. WillC (on FB) actually doesn’t doubt R57’s miles and you can work it out who it is by looking at the Strava like I did. It isn’t rocket science.
I have run more than 50 a day several times and it is not nearly as big a deal as everyone is making out. 72 a day is. Funnily enough, the people who have run high mileage multidays tend to be the ones believing his miles. PK and several other transconners have all seen no particular reason to doubt the claim. The simple fact is no one has offered a plausible explanation for how he is cheating. WillC has been banging on about low hr. Yet when recruiter57 joined him unannounced for 6 miles in the middle of his run, the hr and cadence remained the same as the rest of that day. If there had been cheating going on, there would have been a marked difference in those 6 miles. Someone please explain why there wasn’t.
Lets see Recruiter's strava data for the 6 miles with Will.
I'll happily share mine. It doesn't look like I can attach an image on here. So, here's a link to a png of my run:
And, here's a link to my strava log of that run (I don't know if you have to be 'friends' with me to see it or not):
I ran 6 miles with him after driving an hour to do so. We ran 6 miles together and with the exception of me having to run back to get my hat that blew off from a passing semi, we were step by step the entire time. He is taller than me and has a slightly longer stride. We were running between 9:45 and 10:40 pace most of the segment. My HR was in the high 130s/low 140s and his was in the low 100s. Yes, in the low 100s. This was after he had already ran 32 miles (and prior to his nap). It was in the low 80s with no clouds in the sky and he was barely sweating. Me on the other hand...my wife very clearly told me I stunk when she picked me up.
I have pictures with time stamps along with my Strava log, Garmin Log, and RunMeter log of me doing the run. If you go to his run that day (5/9) to aprox mile 31, you will see our location and pacing line up.
I'll take a stab at it: Because recruiter57 didn't actually do that?
That's pretty poor form to insinuate that. I have nothing to hide as you can see from my most recent post with my strava feed. I'm not afraid to show who I am either. My name is right there...and I am registered on here rather than someone hiding behind a random username.
Care to take back your insinuation that I did not do that? Or, do you choose to not acknowledge when you are mistaken?
Thanks for posting that. Maybe you should also confirm that you are not a member of WG’s extended family or a Nucalm employee, as there are people on here who assume that anyone suggesting he may not be cheating must also be in on the conspiracy

Haha. Let me confirm, under the LR oath, that I have no affiliation with WG, RB, any member of the crew, not a representative of NuCalm or any other of their sponsors. I am an average runner who has been running since 2012 and have run 200+ races from 5ks to marathons to ultra relays. I am inspired by those that push their bodies beyond limits. I am an optimist while still set in reality. I am a believer in building people up rather than tearing them down. I am not in on some conspiracy.
