Rational thinking. A spoiled brat kid went to college where he wasn't the center of attention, and couldn't handle it. Instead of self reflecting, trying harder, and improving, he blames everyone other than himself and quits. This happens all the time.
Nobody is going to believe a Head Coach threw a kid to the ground.
Yeah, and head coaches wouldn't be pedophiles either.

Good point, plus the article says that they fell in love with the city. However, not surprising that people here would leap to the conclusion that this one fact is enough to condemn them as bad parents raising a "pansy".
Whoa! Watch the micro-aggressions, bro. "Pansy" is labelling and hate speech which is condemned by the moderators.

Familiar with the kid and his background. His HS had two coaches during his time there, was removed from the team during the first one and did some less than stellar things to his teammates at the end of his career (faked sick so they wouldnt have him at their team championship meet...there was evidence of this and the coach found out).
Good steepler. Im from NY and know aside from the race walk, its prob the least deep event in the country. 9:15 is good, but he didnt win his section meet. Not the best kid, and I definitely do not believe this story at first glance.
If you were familiar with the kid and his background you would be familiar with his NAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Big chunks of this story are missing.
Why was he being removed from the team and his scholarship being revoked?
What past incidents occurred that implored the coach to take such drastic measures?
Why didn't the athlete press assault charges against the coach after the office meeting incident?
What's up with the suicidal issues the previous night?
Clearly some major issues with this kid. Sounds as though he was called in to be informed that he was being removed from the team for inappropriate behavior and that his scholarship was being revoked due to this. He freaked out and needed to be restrained by the coach and passed out due to having a major meltdown.
Lawsuit doesn't have chance. Too many missing details.
Court adjourned!!!!

I'm 38. I don't have a soft 20 year old. However, when my 8 and 4 year olds are in college, they won't be soft like these recent cases of kids.
I'm a generation older than you. You're soft and your kids will be softer. You referring to anyone as soft is laughable.

So you decided to add your own fiction.

You're both soft and your kids , are soft. We millennials have a grasp of reality, you 2 are wiling to stand up before sports games a honour firemen and military for some insane reason.

If you had understood the article you wouldn't be asking such stupid questions.
The coach removed him from the team because he complained about the a-holes who were hazing him.
The coach was worried that if he removed the bullies that it would lead to him being outed for doing much worse.
I would imagine the victim was shocked at the incident, didn't know how to respond, and wanted to stay on the team.
The suicide story was false, made up by the coaches to try and cover up what the head coach did to the victim.
No credibility when a 9:13 runner claims to have received 20 scholarship offers.
Those schools don’t all have to be Oregon or Stanford. There are hundreds of lower level div-1 schools in the nation
What do those schools have to do with it? They wouldn’t even let him walk on. I have 2 sons in college who both ran faster than this guy and they only got a few very small offers.

You have two sons who ran faster than 9:15 in the steeple in HS?
If I'm remembering correctly, don't only 2 states run the steeple in HS?
No, not the steeple. They ran faster in the 3200. His steeple is unremarkable. It is right in line with his 9:13.
All I’m saying is with his times, schools in conferences like big sky (save for south. Utah and NAU) and the atlantic 10 would probably want him

The article states he was a All American runner. I looked up his HS times and they were pretty average. Also said he had 20 Division 1 scholarship offers which seems crazy.
Parents moved from NY to Arizona since he was going to school there. Who does that?
he was literally 4th in the nation in the steeplechase:

Well, at least that´s better than being figuratively 4th.
This could only happen in America.
I haven't read all of these pages, I just read the first article. But having read that, I believe what he (the athlete) says. Bullying is rife in certain areas and universities certainly don't have the best record for doing anything other than looking the other way. I could entirely see this playing out as stated and claiming someone is suicidal with zero proof - even the hospital doctor and psychologist found no evidence of that, which is just unlikely if someone is in a situation where they would be that distraught (I mean unlikely he would be able to cover it under that kind of high stress circumstance).
Is he gay? Not that it matters, but I just wonder if that could be the root of this and the teammates were stupidly not comfortable with it. I think one thing a significant number of people don't realise is just how much hiding there can be within a university - or any - setting if you're not straight. And I hate to say it but for some reason it's harder within sports (especially team sports) than other areas. Take a day and see how many times you make statements that reveal your sexuality - you mention your boyfriend/girlfriend, your ex, something you did, someone you met, somewhere you went - anything like that. Then try and erase all of those statements. It's living a lie. I could be really far from the mark with this and maybe I am, but it just sounds like something more was going on, possibly. I don't know.
+1
I said the same thing earlier and the mods took it down.
