I watched Reina's run on Youtube. Reina (and the top of the field) ran 4:34 for the first mile. The guys over the weekend were in the high 4:40's. There's not much mystery as to why Reina ran 14:36.

I raced yesterday in the boys race. It was insanely hard. The ground was soft everywhere except in the dog park. The entire course seems to be hilly. There’s no way Reuben Reina would’ve broken 15 minutes if he ran on what we did. And that makes Sydney and Katelynn race that much more impressive because Balboa Park is freaking hard.
This post is an accurate account. Most of the other posts is just a bunch of whining.
Balboa is tough... up and down with many tight twists and turns and side hill x 2. Tough to get a rhythm.
If the footing is bad or soft, this course becomes slow due to its layout.

Keep in mind that on the track, Katelynne is already 9th all-time for the consolidated (3K, 3.2K,2M) girl's two mile list. For Sydney to be anywhere near her is a shock, much less beating her. Probably one of the top-3 all-time girl's performance at Balboa.

Yes, Hart has run 9:52.02 in the 3200 (9:56.40 in the 2 mile) which is extremely fast. Sydney winning that race is the reason we love this sport - underdogs coming through in epic races.
Sydney is already one of the all-time greats.
Speaking of all-time greats Pelé is her mother's cousin.
She had quite a week:
