Too bad. She had tons of talent and was smart and snarky. Great combination. Will miss her.

She said the mile race is steeped in white male nostalgia because of the never ending glorification of Roger Bannister breaking the 4 minute barrier.
Were Bayi, Morceli and El Guerrouj just running to glorify whites?

I was wondering why this thread had so many replies. And of course it was because the delicate sensibilities on the letsrun crowd about a woman expressing her opinion. Never really thought about the mile being a nostalgia fest, but it kinda is.
Also, the 1500 is superior to the mile because it starts on a straightaway rather than a curve so you don't have these nutty tapered double waterfall starts and such.
It is not correct to pretend males here were 'offended' or 'triggered' by what she was saying. They were making fun of her for being an illogical fool. Saying they were 'triggered' is a response to make them seem inferior or to insinuate they had lost control of their faculties.
Here's the issue. She was trying to divide track into 'he' and 'she' for nothing other than the sake of being a victim of the patriarchy. Yes, the mile's most significant barrier and perhaps one of track's most memorable moments was when a white male ran under 4 minutes. Rather than acknowledging that it was a great moment for the sport of track and field, she perplexingly found a way to turn her and her gender into victims and attempt to divide the sport. Y'know what? Almost every single male who runs the mile will never run 4 minutes, they can still appreciate what that means to the history of track and field.
Calling her out for being annoying is not being 'triggered' or 'offended', it's good common sense and more people should push back against this type of behavior.

I think doing it 3 years after she made the comment is perhaps pushing it a bit.
If it's still upsetting you, you should perhaps be concerned.
Again, you can use terms like 'upsetting' all you want if it helps you to internally disarm the arguments . It made a large, memorable impression on this running board because of how ridiculous her claims were. It's become how she is remembered because of how monumentally idiotic she came across. Time will likely not change that, it has nothing to do with her words 'upsetting' anyone.
It is not becoming how she is remembered by those of us who have some sense, perspective and maturity. I remember her as an exciting and successful runner, a very entertaining interviewee, and, alas, someone who got hurt. Her comments certainly don't upset me.
You make some decent points. I contend that had she achieved something after making her victim stance she may have been remembered more favorably by a larger proportion of people.
Most Canucks have a subliminal inferiority complex due to a number of reasons including:
Unofficial national animal is a moose.
Large number of French speaking citizens.
Curling a sport where sweeping ice is integral.
No palm trees in entire country.
Must import most fruit to prevent scurvy in entire population.
Pamela Anderson, Michael J. Fox, Shania Twain, and Neil Young don't live there anymore and are considered persona-non-grata.
Biggest tourist attraction, Niagara Falls, is half in US.
Most Canadians would be okay to be annexed by the U.S.A. as long as the French speakers and non-hockey playing immigrants also left their territories.

I find many posters are exceptionally mean to female runners. Each post has it's specifics, but really, the mean post against female runners are all the same. See the mean post against Stephanie Garcia and Brenda Martinez over the past couple of years. Much of the anger is based on jealousy IMO. Women track teams get as many as 18 scholarships and the men only get about 12. Many men on Let's Run are mad, IMO that 2:10/4:55 women 800/1600 runners get at least partial scholarships. There are, I am sure deeper psychological issues which bring on the hate toward women runners.

You must not read all the Rupp and Centro posts’ and Murphy and Berian and Amos and Gatlin and Gay etc
Canada would get more respect from me if they officially named a national holiday in honor of their greatest athlete Ed Whitlock.
Also, if they could donate some money to the US to help us speed up building the wall on our southern border. I'm sure some illegals eventually make it up in Canuckland.

I find it odd when others come to The States on a visa, then complain about everything- i.e. Sheila Reid, Ciaran O'lionaird, etc. It just always seems to me like an ungrateful houseguest. Though, I think certain subsets of society in general just want something to complain about. And yes, I am native. Born and raised in Talequah, OK- the capitol of our Cherokee Nation.
These complainers were so triggered when they came here , they made a complainers club.

Who can name the first woman to break 4 in the 1500, 9 in the steeple, or 15 in the 5k without looking it up? They are clearly very celebrated marks.

Are you really suggesting 'deep psychological issues' as a reason to call someone out for making idiotic claims?
Guys are 'mean' (read: blunt, insensitive, fact and logic driven irrespective to emotion) to everyone. The guys on the receiving end of this type of commentary just don't turn into victims about it.

If you asked 500 random people who any of these guys are 499 would have no clue and one might guess athletes.

I'm not sure what mean B-Mart posts you're referring to. People here love her, apart from her recent tripping shenanigans. She consistently shows up in the "Hottest female runner" threads. And I don't think anyone here gives an eff about scholarships when it comes to liking a runner. Now, people here don't like drama and certain bratty personality types. There just happens to be more women that fall into that camp.
