Good thing no other elite international sprinters cheat.

She'd be fantastic. She'd dive into the sport, gain a big working knowledge and then expect nothing but the best from her athletes. And, she'd smartly want people who can perform in the relays, not simply the fastest athletes.
USA men's 4 x 100 goes home PREDICTABLY!

Lol - we have another gymnastics lover! Marta does have an excellent record as a mentor & developer of U.S. teams -- albeit in a different sport, but could anyone really do any worse than Dennis?

No sympathy for a 19 year old kid who ran one of the gutsiest races of his life. What a tough guy you are! You've really proved how big of a man you are with this post.
Bromell is 21, not 19.
Honto? Nippon. Uso.
Might not be true but it seem to makes sense, either Dennis Mitchell got his job because he can be counted on to help dopers and keep quiet about it , or he was hired because if he wasn't he had too much to tell. What the heck else makes sense?

I'd pay to see those practices. I imagine he just quitely mutters how you screwed up and maybe some insults too and it's worse than being yelled at.
That's right. Never accept responsibility for anything. Point the finger at others. Always. You must be a Trump supporter.

Your line up is ran in a really stupid order, and your handoffs sucked.
A HS sprint coach could of done a better job
How is the coach to blame? Please explain.
Sad to say this but the bottom line is we need the next generation undetectable drugs.
I can't remember another Olympics where we were so uncompetitive in sprinting events.
100m - gold medalist from 12 years ago is the best we have.
200m - an aged 400m guy is our best hope.
400m - again, the only competitive guy is on his last Olympics.
110h - where did all the sub 13 guys go (oh yeah, drug testing)
400h - Another event we used to own. I'd forgotten Clement even existed.
4 x 100 - The last time we were competitive was before Balco.
4 x 400 - Not dominating like we used to.
The drug testing is clearly taking its toll.
Even so, if Japan can run 37.60, we should have been able to win this 4x100 with a clean team. Unless Japan is drugged.
Thankfully the distance runners are performing well.
I can't, for the life of me understand how these world class athletes just can't get it right?? The rest of the world has no problems. The women's team had no problems. This is ridiculous!
early pass wrote:
Rodgers to Gatlin was early. IAAF rule 170.7.
The baton shall be passed within the takeover zone. The passing of the baton commences when it is first touched by the receiving athlete and is completed the moment it is in the hand of only the receiving athlete. In relation to the takeover zone, it is only the position of the baton which is decisive. Passing of the baton outside the takeover zone shall result in disqualification.
Gatlin touched the baton, which initiates the pass, prior to entering the zone.
This Mr. early pass is 110% correct in every way. EOT.
[Who would anyone suggest as a replacement for Dennis?
A can of spam.
a few obvious things amongst both the men and women:
the marks are too small. every incoming runner ran way up on the outgoing runner, slowing the baton down dramatically for both teams. this is part of the reason the first exchange was too early for men. the other reason is they were trying to get their fastest guy (gatlin) the baton as early as possible. they didn't exactly take a risk on the 2nd exchange because gay got it right in the middle of the zone. if they were going to get gatlin the baton early, they should have stretched him a few more meters on the 2nd exchange. the women could have broken the wr with more aggressive marks and still had safe passes.
the practice intensity must be a good deal lower than the race intensity seeing how much the incoming runners were crushing the outgoing runners.
they need to be better about lane sharing.
as another poster alluded to, they should go to a silent step count. the most common way this is done is the outgoing runner counts their first 7 steps and the hand goes back. the incoming runner counts the outgoing runners steps and knows exactly when they should see the hand. if the marks are set correctly, you will never pass early like usa did because the 7th step will be the start of the zone or later. most good hs coaches in my state use some kind of silent system, it is easy to implement.
Who even cares if our country got DQed?
I don't care if Jamaica had Bolt. As far as the relays are concerned, if we're not first we might as well be last. The last few olympics have been a disgrace to USA sprinting. It was no different when it appeared as if we got bronze this year and it's no different now after we've been DQed.

What marks? The passing zones? They are 2-inch wide yellow stripes all the way across each 48-inch lane, with an acutely angled "hook" on one end. That's one of the standard methods of marking relay passing zones.
How do you want it to be made bigger? Stripes wider than 2 inches are not allowed. You can't exactly make the stripes longer than the lane is wide. Yellow against light blue is fairly bright and high in contrast.
Nah, the answer is:
F I R E . . . D E N N I S . . . M I T C H E LL
B team with two college guy's run's 37.65 wins heat easy. A team run's 37.62 with two 100m finalists, loses to Japan, get's disqualified. And Coleman and Lawson go home with nothing. LAME!
