If I may…
I want to thank ESL PhD, for the colostomy bag he just put in for me.
There was certainly no grade inflation where I went to school nor am I generally inattentive to detail. If anyone would like to discuss using Nina Byam’s ideas on discourse theory at the undergraduate level or why Mark Twain might really have been a Naturalist writer then I am game. That being said, I really did make a mess of things in that post. I was never a great grammarian and I have always struggled with that area of my profession. I should clarify my MA should really be in literary theory. I employed editors to check my spelling while I thought up really cool academic ideas. Certainly, 12 years is along time not to work in ones graduate area of study.
Yet, I think many understood the points of my post. Simply, neither individual would have the reputation as coaches/experts that they have right now if it were not for the internet. Impressions one may get from reading such posts on the internet boards are not going to be accurate. There is indeed a little self aggrandizing going on. However, for both individuals they give fairly (not fairy) sound advice and they mean well.
For Weldon’s sake I had hoped you would catch the idea, though not clearly stated, or well stated for that matter, that my impression of the “oiliness” was an incorrect one, and that it stemmed from my more traditional or mainstream career tract. I am well aware of your coach’s propensity to be outside the mainstream culture and admire him for such. The reaction I have would be the same reaction that a 1950’s dad would have when his daughter comes home with a beatnik for a date. It is a flawed, visceral reaction that I must work to overcome.
The whole point of giving my credentials and my current employment was to give the readers an idea of the mind set and training I have had. Colloquially, I wanted people to know where I was coming from.
Apparently, some thought I came from very far from anywhere near the U.S. education system.
In any case I now have to prepare for the second practice session of the day which will begin with a round table discussion of the nature of an athlete and his or her role in society.
Have fun storming the castle boys, I’ll be back in a day or two to see if JK has scored a grand amplitude pin on Tinman.
