Your girlfriend is right.
I would not have anything to do with the portrait at this point.
Good posts, Someone else responded to you under my handle, that wasn't me. My girlfriend wanted to be in the portrait but after she heard me on the phone only getting the OK for her to come after I threatened not to go if she wasn't invited, she decided not to go because she wasn't wanted.
I am not going either. Maybe if my mom called her and asked her she would feel welcome and agree to go. Then I would go.
What you describe is known as a "snit". Grow a pair.

You obviously either have never been in love or you have no loyalty to those you love.

She died.
It's ok. You didn't know.

Your mom is trying to pressure you to get married or trying to express disapproval of you / your girlfriend. You should not put up with that kind of behavior. Just be a man, call her bluff, and refuse to be in the family photo under such conditions. Your mother has no way to respond other than get the photo without you and explain to everyone why one of her children is not in it.
Ignore the idiots who tell you that you should get married. You know what is best for your life, not them. The world is full of people who wish they did not cave in to pressure to get married. You will know when, if ever, you want to do that.
Thanks

Who said anything about a piece of paper?
Family involves absolute and permanent commitment.
"girlfriend" - doesn't mean shit other than that you are (hopefully) banging her
"live-in" - doesn't mean shit either.
Family involves absolute and permanent commitment.
Your welcome.

Nope. The mother should have just said it's a family portrait and let the family decide who's in.
So, "the family" decides who is "the family"?
Gotta love your mashed potato brain.

Your lifestyle is a disgrace to your family. If you want your family to consider your girlfriend part of the family, marry her and stop living together in sin.
"living together in sin" - That's hilarious.
Thanks for the chuckles.

Ummm..who said anything about legal status and rights, imbecile?
Here you go again, just in case you missed it:
Family involves absolute and permanent commitment.
Note that it is not limited to "legal status and rights".

Sounds like you were a really dumb 16 year-old, and your parents idiots as well.
I know of a case where a mother had a few children that were fathered by her oldest son. Mom is always right.

Great post. No married couple has every demonstrated anything less than absolute and permanent commitment, you are right.
Moron.
With a seven-year history, they have lasted LONGER than the majority of "absolute and permanent commitment" marriages.
OP, if I was your mom I'd be more likely to invite your girlfriend and disinvite you from the portrait due to your no n-stop sniveling.

So, some folks make "commitments" that they do not keep and therefore there is no such thing as a commitment?
Great thinking.

Actually I have been in love and proved it in part by marrying her. Forget the financial advantages; I had the cojones to make a commitment. That's where you and I differ.
Both of you are idiots if you don't realize that it is "you're" not "your."
