Wheating looked like he could have run 3:36-high to 3:37 in a better race than tonight's. He went from second to sixth and then back to second all in the last 200m. He accelerated away from the field in the last about 80m like it was nothing, after they all had pretty much put themselves ahead of him by maybe the 150m to go mark.
Wheating's relative lack of racing in the last little while showed tonight, it's too bad he slowed down while in the lead at I think around 300m to go, he could have won if he didn't back off. It's almost as if he temporarily gave up right around when Manzano decided to take the lead, weird. Hopefully he gets in a 1500 with good pacing where he really hammers it sometime before USA's. The guy needs to run a fast time in order to get his confidence back.
Don't forget, he beat every other OTC 1500m guy in this field, only Blankenship was absent. Weird race overall though, Pat Casey of all people was third to last in 3:43.
We all heard that, right?
I am literally streaming rain in HD right now.
Figures the one day it rains in California is the same day people are actually going for fast times in this sport, fml.
Totally agree, with 200 to go you could see he was barely breathing, he didn't know what to do, he's inexperienced, and tentative after so much time off, injured, not racing, not knowing what he's racing for. His trajectory was all upward for so long, he has the confidence, but not the instincts and experience yet, he really needs coaching on tactics, study races etc.

Rojo, slow down your horses! Weather is no good, the race was exciting to watch!
Fair enough, particularly since I'm the one who normally hates time trials.
They just announced that it would be at least 50 minutes until the next race...
That being said, the sound of rain in HD in the background is pretty nice.
Are they still hearing thunder or are they just askaird of a little rain
HD rain + HD generator noise is a little less fun.

When young, talented girls ask their runner-parents who the hell Mary Cain was and how she got all the American Junior records they won't remember her.
Has Saladbar been monkeying with Mary Cain's running form?
Her arms didn't seem to be sawing across Mary's body......which is natural for her.
Anyone?
Does anyone know whats going on, why theyre just filing the track being rained on

You already know for 3 years he's been having her work on forward motion. Etc.
As far as worrying about her this season. It's not over until it's over and I'll worry the week of USA's...
It may still be early.
Rain seems to be calming down.
Someone's been watching too much Miss Congeniality.

If Rupp has a crappy race again this year in the 5000 I will hope that it is a sign that they are training through this meet and can bounce back like Rupp did last year at Pre in the 10k

robby has been standing on the 1500 start line in the set position this whole time waiting for the gun to go off. somebody go get him, please.
Ya I remember watching her run into Hasay at the U.S. Indoors a couple years ago. Maybe the chemo ruined her brain of something? But seriously, she's a professional athlete and she needs to keep her hands and feet to herself.
