We know the fact that I am a Frogman makes you angry...that is what we definetly know.
That and the fact America has rejected socialist scum bags like you;)
Ches was being HUMBLE!!!
Listen up knuckle-heads. You're about to be cross-culturally schooled.
The simple explanation is Ches grew up in Kenya and he still has some linguistic evidence of that. Phrasing things in the "let x happen" way is common there. It indicates a self-talk of acceptance of the reality of a situation. Ches is saying to himself,
"calm down Ches, accept defeat, it's okay that Eric beats you this time."
If Ches had meant that he had let Eric win the way we think of it, he would have said "let me let him win". The "let me do x" phrasing is what would modestly indicate some agency.
I've spent time in Tanzania, learned conversational Swahili, and am interested in stuff like this. It's a cultural thing. I hope Eric Jenkins understands what Ches meant.

I'm sure Ches backed off...he just allowed senior Jenkins a bit of glory before he graduates and is never heard of again.
It doesn't matter if he backed off or not. You don't say you, "Backed off because he's my teammate." in an interview. It's a bull crap way to answer a question and really takes away from some of the pride Jenkins had from outkicking him.
Editor's update: LetsRun's race recap of this 3000 race is here:
