I don't think the author needs to focus on Slaney that much. However, when the author is making such a direct comparison to Mary Slaney and her being a child prodigy and Slaney later turned to doping (or had a positive test) I think it should be mentioned she had a positive drug test. Was too much of Mary's identity tied up into being this successful runner at whatever the cost?
So much of the article is "Alberto doesn't want to burn them out like he did". Well what about "not going down the path Slaney did?" This is a very long article you can mention Slaney tested positive.
