I think that's a good way of putting it. But what I want to know is that if injuries are a non-factor, what is the ideal training for the majority of runners. 100 mpw over 12 runs? 60 mpw over 6 runs but all quality? 150 mpw nice and easy but very hard workouts?

That's the point of the quote. There is no 'majority of runners'. Volume and intensity are the two main variables you can adjust, and you do it in a way that suits your unique profile of running attributes.

Wow. 6:06 was my best mile in high school, 14:08 my best 3200m. My longest run to date was just shy of 8 miles. I took up running as a fat kid in 10th grade. I really like running and have begun to follow the sport very closely over the last 2 years with great enthusiasm, but I'm starting to think I don't belong on this site. Is everyone on LR elite, near-elite, or elitist?
Most people posting on here were varsity XC and track athletes.
Comparing your times you spent jogging to get in shape would be like me comparing what I've done lifting to guys who played HS & college football.
1500 - 4:08 (4:28 mile equivalent?) with a 60 final 400!
My other PBs are far from representative, set as the second race of the day, or early in the season... Probably could have gone c. 2:04 in the 800, and 8:50something in the 3K...
Longest run was about 11 miles, but did several quick (for me) 10 milers, the fastest in 61:09!
