Is Maiyo sponsored by the US Army or what? I don't think I've ever seen a Kenyan race in an Army singlet.
I would like to see more coverage of the women's race too, but clearly this is aimed at interesting for an average person. Two women leading by 3+ minutes doesn't make for as compelling a discussion as the large men's lead pack. Announcers seem well versed and are making the commentary interesting. Best national coverage I have seen of a marathon in the US. Hopefully they don't miss anything huge on a commercial break.
First mention of Hartmann 28 mins into the race.
Still no mention of Yuki
Someone pull McEnroe's microphone please

2 million spectators!!!??? Ha. the 1 million number they used to proudly throw around was ridiculous. so i guess they just decided that another 1 million people would come out and watch?
26.2 x 5280 = 138,336 feet of running in the marathon
1 million / 138, 336 = 7.2 spectators per foot of course
2 million = 14.2 spectators per foot of course
The numbers only increase if you toss out the first 2 miles of the course because there are no spectators on the bridge.
Who do they think actually believes this garbage?
lol. Good work.
Why is Viktor Roethlin listed as from the USA?
525 12th mile for leaders in women's race. They are still rolling. 525 is roughly 2:20 pace. Gained another 6 seconds.

"On the left you see the unadulterated fun of participation. And on the right you see the serious business of marathon running."
What a great way to highlight the difference between the participators and the racers.
Agreed, this was great. In general, I am incredibly impressed with the coverage thus far. Good announcing makes a world of difference. John Anderson is crushing it
I'm impressed by the dedication of the spectators to get up early, stake out a spot, and cheer for hours of runners going by.
That's a pretty cool deal considering they don't know most of the runners, and probably the majority of spectators are not runners...and it is not like they are going to see a great, hit, throw, catch, goal or touchdown or something.
Very cool people who come out and cheer.

Yes, he is a soldier in the Army. there are several kenyans running for the Army. Most are US citizens now.

He said a couple interesting things but also obviously doesn't understand that there are people chasing PRs. He just made it seem like anyone not in the elite field is running for charity.
Nobody beats deba. She will kill it

Rojo, thanks so much for the live updates on the women's splits!!
I agree because ESPN is certainly doing a poor job Then again who cares what the score of a game is anyway
The commentating is pretty good. Loved when Mcenroe asked if Meb was 72 in running years since he was 38.

I love mcenroe. Don't mess with my childhood idol.
Delilah hung around for about 7 miles. Lost a minute on the pack in a hurry though
