3 out of 328, and all under 4:40.
I never ran the mile, but 800 in 2:04-05 is a safe bet to break 5. Also had at least 3 others that ran 800 between 1:55-2:10 for 800 that could have probably done it.

3 out of 120.
4:27, 4:37, and 4:48, but I'm sure there were others who didn't run track that could've done this.
I was the only one in a class of 60, ran 4:58 the first week of freshman CC practice. :) Had some extremely talented runners in classes above & below me though.
ooh good thread. our graduating class was 190. we had 3.
i ran 4:23, my friends ran 4:43 and 4:51 i believe.
funny aside, 3 years later, the graduating class of 150 something had 4 guys break 9:40 in the 2 mile(we got 4th at NXN that previous fall).
In my high school graduating class I was the only guy who did it back in 2000 I ran 4:24.34. Graduating Class was 450 so .002%.
I ran 5:00... I was the only kid who ran in my class. Class size of 50.
3/250
4:28
4:32
4:45
About 10-12. Class size = 440.
There was one guy under 4:30.
I was 2nd with a 4:36.
We had one around 4:42.
Several more in the high 4:40's to mid 4:50's.
At least 2 or 3 that eked out 4:59's toward the end of the season.
3/186
4:34, 4:44, 4:55
Coach was a little 800 crazy though and it wasn't run much by anyone. More focus would have led to one maybe two more under 5.
We had 4 in my class of 620 that broke 5:00 at some point in high school, though there was one guy who only ran 800 who could've done it senior year. There were a few soccer guys who definitely could've done it if they'd done track instead of soccer. There was also a guy who did figure skating who claimed to have fun 4:20, though I call BS on that as he never once ran for our school. Two years later the senior class had 6 with 3 of those sub 4:30. I was the second fastest in my class at 4:41.
2 out of a class of about 75-80
Me - 4:28 (still the school record, sad but true)
One other guy went 4:48.
I ran 4:33, and two teammates who were my year ran 4:57-59ish. I believe that was it from our graduating class of 570ish.
1/745
7 out of 700 including 1 girl although not all in same graduating class but had that many at one time
In my class there were probably 4 out of a class of 700. That was in the 70s.
My daughter, when she was in highschool, was the only one in her class to do it senior year. The boys coach sucked. His guys would always run about 800 meters way too fast, but then come straggling in, completely gassed. The class size was around 700, too.
Class size of 23X.. Boarding school, so the sample isn't quite the same.
1) 4:09
2) 4:22
3) 4:25
4) 4:28
5) 4:38
6) 4:49
4:12, 4:22, 4:32 (me), 4:40, 4:42, 4:42
6/400, so 1.5%
I think the next three graduating classes had about one each though. Our class was very strong for some reason. It's funny how sometimes things go in waves like that.
This sounds dangerously close to my HS except we had 700 something in my graduating class and 2,400ish total students. All told we had around 17 or 18 break 10 minutes for two full miles my senior year and no clue how many sub 5's but I'm guessing a lot.
Went to day school in village. Have 86 mates in class. 83 break 4:30 for 1.5km by Grade 7. Of others, 1 have malaria, 1 have the HIV and 1 born with no arms or legs. Of tese, 2 run in 5:10 range, other manage 6:03. We shoot tese tree. You Americans so funny jokes!
Still in highschool and the only in my junior class that can break 5, class of 60, whole high school has 2 sub 5 and 270 students
