LV's best shot at the 2012 Olympics was probably the Steeplechase, IMHO. His 8:29 2 mile projects pretty favorably and we don't really have anyone in the event right now.

This shows that he does not have what it takes to be a top runner.
After getting crushed in his first 2 XC races, he wants to choose the easier path.
Listen, triathlon is a sport that is much easier to succeed in because it takes out the poorer countries of the world as competitors. It started gaining popularity when the Africans started to dominate distance running.
It is a made sport to allow the white middle class First World athletes to have a chance.
I have so much respect for a guy like Galen Rupp who goes out and challenges the best in the world rather than become a candy-ass triathlete who ducks top competition. Man-up Lucas!
Last time I checked, Alan Webb's decision to leave college was a huge mistake. Kids don't understand that sometimes it takes a little bit of time to adapt to a new training program but it is often very beneficial in the end. Success in distance running is a game of patience

Of course it could be that he just didn't want to waste too much time doing something that wasn't right. His coaching situation before Oregon was working very well, why change what works?
Afterall, don't we all wish Alan Webb and German Fernandez would have made this decision and made it this early on?
1) Quit school and running.
2) ?????
3) PROFIT!

YES!
Said this before and was shot down. Gomez runs his last 10k in the tri in UNDER 30 minutes. Lukas doesn't have the speed for the swim nor the speed on the bike in order to beat anyone going under 30 in the 10k. We shall see.
I, too, am unhappy that Lukas has chosen to move away from the track to the triathlon. However, I do not disrespect his decision; it is his to make. That being said, I do not respect his leaving the team right near the end of the season. What, he couldn't gut it out? I am a college runner and I know I would never forgive a varsity runner for leaving the team to do his own thing ONE WEEK before regionals.
I know it's been mentioned a fair amount already, but I think his timing is based on his inability to transition to the team atmosphere in xc. The shift to the triathlon may have been inevitable, but he did not have to do it in such a classless manner. Wait until after nationals and then make a quiet transition. Do not be a prima donna and make a scene one week before regionals. If he had waited, I may have wondered "what if," but I would not have questioned his motives and timing.

DUDE, GROW UP! you just wish you were good enough to have a decision like that to make. never mind what H8rs say
I think you miss the whole point. Lukas quit because he is not a good runner.
Dollars to doughnuts he was heavily recruited by the Elite Triathlon Academy. Is this ethical?
Agree. The Brownlee bros. have run 29:00 flat post run. And are better swimmers. His times prior aren't that great. His run times are much more impressive than his triathlon titles.
Brotip #236 Lukas use some more magnets before you pull this sh!t on us!

His odds of making the 2012 Olympics in either the triathlon or any track event are very slim. I don't get why he didn't at least finish the XC season. He let his team down. Him leaving probably knocks Oregon out as a top 10 team.
His not timing and not sticking out the season is the worst, completely incoherent part of this. I don't understand how an athlete can have so little loyalty to his teammates. How many runners deny injuries, pretend to be healthy, and run through pain as to not let their team down?
Lucas is a BIG LOSER as documented on this web and many other webs since his departure. However, he'll be back to running when he misses reading his name everyday on letsrun.com. His ego is WAY TOO BIG to miss that! What a classless act and hypocrite. You're number last (last) in my book and many others Lucas.
Holy shit he's going to be going to my school!
We only listen to TX Runner Girl. Sorry.

I posted last night that he was leaving, but all of the threads kept getting deleted. Apparently I am not a credible source.

Tri distances are so random, these guys can't run that fast, stop with that shit. If they could run they wouldn't dress like Homos and train for this second rate sport.
Can't blame him. Guys and gals in Triathlon are making coin! They have sponsorship, money, and support. Meanwhile, our top distance runners struggle to make ends meet. US Track and Field is continuing the slow killing of our sport just like TAC, and AAU did.

Just an observation but I think most on this website would probably take pride in that statement.
Oh yes. I am SO proud of my ignorance!

Yes, I'm sure that Alan Webb and Alysson Felix are filled with regret over how little they have achieved and how much better they would have fared if they had not just continued in college (as they did), but also eschewed the hundreds of thousands of dollars they earned in order to learn race tactics that you can only learn in the NCAA.
Bump for the brojos
