Imane could train with continuity during the last month only, and the volume was not enough. Nothing compared with his training of last season (when, don't forget, he won WCCCh). The last period was more dedicated to some speed endurance, looking at the possibility to go in the team in 5000m, having a very little percentage of chances. You can see the equivalences between last season (12'53" / 26'48") and this season (12'59" / 27'42"), clearly showing the endurance is not the same.
However, in Oslo Imane was aided by a poor pacing, so he could use his final speed. In my opinion, if the pace was faster (about 7'42" at 3000m, that was the plan of Ethiopians before the race) he couldn't have any chance. Of course, if from now he can increase his training without fearing to stop after two weeks, there is time to grow, looking at 5000m only. The problem was for now, and he was lucky. Now, he can have some chance.
