tell me when and where.
tell me when and where.
Offered a Bet, I think you should take a serious look at my strategy, I have done something very similar, except a 5km and 4 burgers but in half the time, this has worked in the past, give it a trial run you will not be dissapointed
I would rock this challenge. I'm a good runner and I've done plenty of eating challenges (closest to this though I would say are the many beer miles I have done). What you need to do is have a huge breakfast the morning before the race. Then maybe a snack in the afternoon if you think you need it. That night though nothing. Get up in the morning and do an easy fairly long run. I'm not sure you need to do 10 miles but maybe 8. Then start the race running the first 5 miles at 6 minute pace. When you get to the five mile mark start eating, while attempting not to slow down. In this last mile done somewhere between 6 and 7 minutes (hopefully closer to 6) you should be able to get down almost 2 big macs. Now you have started eating, you should be starving despite having run a hard effort, your stomach from preparation the day before will still be rather larger despite your fast. You need to keep eating as fast as you can before it catches up to you. Shouldnt be a problem to finish in the time limit though. I think this is the best way to do this challenge as fast as possible. I think the only way to go faster than this would be to start eating sooner before the finish of the 10k. You should keep in mind that the longer you go between eating big mac no.1 and no.6 the harder you are making it on yourself. Especially with a hard run in the middle during which you will digest nothing. Remember to use the food shake to make extra room when the going gets tough. Good luck.
Good advice, but you're acting like 6 big macs is a lot of food. It's not. It's only 3400calories. Spacing out his food will have little to no effect on consuming this many calories.
True, you can pack down more food when you eat it quickly, however, he's not eating that much.
There's plenty of good strategies. I agree with your pre-race eating and fasting, that's a must - probably don't need a long run the morning of -- his appetite should be there.
Time it right, though -- a 24 hour "fast" should be plenty. However, don't fast completely. It's best to have light snacks throughout the day.
I agree. That's why I said I think this is the best way to complete this challenge as fast as possible. I think the hour time limit should be a piece of cake if you do things properly. I guess I just think if you're going to do it at all then might as well do it as fast as possible. I also think that eating as fast as possible in the shortest amount of time is the best way to go. If you hit that food wall and still have more macs to down then the chance of vomiting only goes up, but if you've already finished then you can strictly concentrate on not throwing up... a much harder task than one might think if you've never done anything like this before. Maybe I am overestimating how much food it is though. In the challenges I've done I haven't ever looked at the total amount of calories but I would imagine at least 2-3 times more in the least of them.

Seriously Dude, we WILL need to see this in action.

yes! try to video tape it and put it on youtube, or have universal sports do live feed
What is the course like? Can you do it on a track?
Dude, if you don't have to drink anything, you can do this easily. Buy two BMs tomorrow and eat them as fast as you can. After that you will realize that you have it. Run first, eat second.
Is this a Cornell food challenge, just curious? It is basically the DHC minus drinks plus 3 miles, and that record is around 30 minutes, so definitely doable if you're good at such things.
Bump. I don't want this to be forgotten. When's the race again?
This is a very easy challenge for someone who can run a 10k in 40 minutes or less (thus giving you time to eat them afterward). Big Macs aren't even that big...just 540 calories apiece.
540 x 6 = 3240. More than you likely would eat in a day, and a non-healthy way to get that number of calories, but as an eating challenge after a run? Nah -- easy easy easy. You should win this easily.

It's in the Atl my friend.
Please please tell me the race is the US 10k Classic??? If so all I can do is laugh, that course is miserable...If its at the 10k Classic though I will most definitely have to go watch this in person. Good luck...

Subject is pretty self-explanatory. Looking for some insight from any similar experiences. Already have $150 on the table. May be close to $500 once race day rolls around. Road course that is pretty tough have about 2 months to prepare.
What is your affiliation with McDonalds, if any?
Don't you know? He will probably get sponsored by them if he completes this challenge and wins...who knows maybe a year supply of BM's? The inquiry minds want to know.
This is a very easy challenge. In college, we did a whopper mile, and the winner ran something under 8 minutes. He wasn't even a varsity runner.
Eating 6 burgers sounds like a lot, but in a race situation it's a cake walk. Anyone that bets against you is an idiot, so long as you are a halfway decent runner.
All I need in life is some dick and a big mac.
I've been enjoying this thread--the best one yet.
A couple of weeks ago, Tyson Gay confirmed my assertion that sprinters live off fast-food burgers. He's now hired a "nutritionist". If his flailing 19.76 was any indication, he should return to McD's.
BTW, I just completed a sprint workout in 87 degrees, high humidity, after hoofing down 2 Big Mac's.
Even with acidosis, I didn't even notice I had eaten them. They really have gotten smaller.
Go for it!
I think you shouldn't eat the night before, and then in the morning go for a long run of 30km and in he last 10 eat the burgers, isn't that what ultrarunners do? Dean Karnazes orders pizzas while he's running.
Hope this helps.
