If all these gals are healthy next summer they should REALLY hit the Euro circuit. Bunch of studs.

and a road 5k and a road mile, point being she just didn't start her season.

Willard, Wurth-Thomas and Barringer have had numerous races on track since January, including several races at the 1500 meter, mile and/or 800 meter distance.
Prior to PreFontaine, Rowbury had one 5k race on the track and since PreFontaine, she has run USATF nationals. That's it.
Big difference, sorry you can't grasp this concept!
Defar looking pretty fresh here. Guess the Ethiopians are just a naturally fresh race. No wonder they are so fast. Genetically they can finish a race and probably go right into a workout.

That thing called trust your instincts and experience will work for the rest of us, but since yours appear to be shot better K.I.S.S. and "trust the clock".

So........why would you want your slowest runner to run anchor?
first of all was just riffing on the fact that USA has a current corps of 1500 runners who'd make a really sweet 4 x 1 mile relay...order doesn't REALLY matter because it's a total fantasy league...but, that being said and in response to your "why slowest runner on anchor" comment, strategically I was merely positioning the current reigning national champion at 1500 meters at anchor...call me crazy.
what you don't understand , sr season started with a 5k and the big difference is in the training for the 5 rather than the 1500. when sr should have been running 800s in the spring, cook had her chasing the A standard in the 5k. look...sr and cook experimented with 5k in the spring. they chose to go that route. being the track expert that you are, you do realize that cook was trying to show-up sf and it didn't workout. sr has two good runs in the 1500 this spring. one tactical, one time trial. lets hope sr sticks to the 1500. run some 800s, have some fun, and be the third US female to crack 4:00 this season.

Excuse me, Tenn Jed. I am a close family friend of Shannon's and can state with certainty that you do not know what you are speaking of.
Shannon does not train or race to "show up" anyone, let alone her former teammate who she respects. Her goals are simple and pure. Work as hard as she can to be the best that she can be. She doesn't concern herself with what other people say or do because there is no reason for her to waste her energy on things she can't control.
Her early season strength training was for one very simple reason. Prepare her for a long summer track season at 1500 meters so she can hopefully be ready to rock in Berlin. She never intended to compete in the 5k beyond her one and only race at that distance on the track in Berkeley.
Kindly keep you false information to yourself.
If it was just a one time thing running the 5000, then why did sr sign up for the 5000 at trials and scratch at the last minute when she knew that would mean disaster in the 1500?

Because, my ignorant fellow poster, it's called "covering your ass." Suppose something disastrous happened in her heat of the 1500m (like being tripped and falling to the ground at a key stage and being unable to qualify for the final). If she's not declared in anything else, she's f***ed for worlds. But if disaster did strike in the 1500m heats, she would be able to come back a few hours later and go for a spot in the 5000m. You see, as a professional track and field athlete, a significant amount of money relies on her qualifying for the World Championships. If she fails to qualify, I can assure you that Nike would reduce her stipend by a significant amount.
Very well said.

that's why Cook has such great success with his athletes. He understands that the best way to prepare a 1500 meter runner for world class competition in August is NOT having them run 800s in the spring
