Agree, Valby ran a great race. There were 25 of the best women distance runners in the world and she finished 11th. Pre race, I thought Valby might crack the top 10. There were 8 Ethiopians and Kenyans in the race. Had to concede those positions before shooting the gun.
Valby critics should give her a break. Her first serious race as a pro was the Olympics 10000 final. She competed at the highest level did well.
Naw...was a very slow race so it appeared she was more competitve. She is over 2 minutes behind Chebet in a fast race..
Valby’s stride is actually much better than when she ran in highschool. Her stride was much worse back then. Take a look at her 3200 state championship video where she ran 10:10.
You left out the part where the winner ran like 2 minutes off her PR and that is the only reason why she appeared to be close to the finishing time. That could have very easily been 1:16 off the winning time. She is significantly slower than the winner right now in a fast race.

I mean I hope she proves me wrong but you basically got to be sub 355 1500 to compete on the track right now in women's running
What are you talking about? There are only 10 women IN THE WORLD who have run sub-3:56 in 2024 and only 6 have gone sub-3:55. These are 1500m runners. We are talking about a 10000m runner here. Gudaf Tsegay is the ONLY women in the world in 2024 to run sub-31:00 and sub-4:00. Not even Hassan has done both in 2024.
What are you talking about? Every woman that meddled this year and the last few years in the 5K and the 10K has the potential to run sub 355
They're closing sub 57 in 5Ks and 10Ks now
Hassan 351, faith 349, tsegay, 350, chebet could easily run sub 355 and the Italian woman could probably come pretty darn close if not do it...
Valby just got beaten by 16 seconds in last two laps in a slow 10K.
A lot of these runners don't actually run 1,500s but the potential is there...

This. The 16 seconds sounds way closer than it really was when you factor in the winner was 2 minutes off her PR. Valby would have been more than lapped in a fast race. Just the facts.
I am saying nothing about Nico. The fact that Chebet jogged this race goes to show how far behind Valby actually is when they race fast. Chebet just didnt need to run fast today in this slow tactical race. Thats the only reason Valby wasnt way off the winning time.
Correct. My Conclusions:
- PV would have been lapped if they decided to blast it from the start.
- Forget the BS about "getting global racing experience". In an 800 that counts - not in a 10K where there's lots of time to think and there's really only 3-4 race scenario's. PV learnt zero from this race I could not have told her (and she probably knew better than me!) previously.
- As anyone without Valby-goggles knows, she will never medal on the world stage at 10K. But she is only 21, so she can either (1) focus on the marathon 2028, or at least see if it's worth a shot or (2) Dope to the gills and be competitive or (3) Keep on doing what she's doing and be a big fish in a small pond. This last might be the best bet (and it's what I would do). Win a few US titles, marry some rich hunk and live happily ever after.

Don't forget Only Fans. With her PR that's looking like the strongest plan.
I mean cranny and Perrier are 357 and 356 in the 1500s. And they're the best American 5K runners. And they can't even stay close to the elite 5K runners and that's cranny's best event. You really don't think the rest of the elite 5K 10K runners have that potential.

This is unquestionably, without a doubt, true! She is hitting the basics, and is much stronger physically.
However, the most troubling thing about her stride, displaying just a few weeks ago at the US Trials (and earlier), was an asymmetric recoil difference between her legs, consequently resulting in one thigh rising a little higher than the other. In slow motion, it made her stride appear a bit gimpy.
We saw just a bit of it in the following clip, but that is at higher pace, wearing high stack cushioned shoes, so if the problem stems from the foot, it might still be concerning when running in spikes:
The jumping is usual. His remarks in the post.-100 press conference that his 200 competition would be depressed after the turn was also usual, for him.
Unusual was NBC interviewing mom right after the 200, when she was the first to mention the Covid. That was during the live morning coverage. ...... It was not included in that night's primetime race coverage..... If true, Team USA would get that info to NBC asap. If not true, Team USA and NBC are stuck with the narrative.
I doubt we'll see parents get interviewed again live after races.
But can we give medical staff a gold medal for the bringing the wheelchair? How Noah decided that using it was a good option, is a mystery for the ages.
Sorry, I'm 100 percent I clicked reply on another post. Too many tabs open on browser l, perhaps.
I think Valby was closer to her PB than anyone ahead of her, certainly the other USA runners. Good for her to first trust the pack, them push the pace when it had become ridiculously slow.
I thought she had a chance at a medal. She pushed every race from the gun and I thought having people in front of her would make her race better.
But the problem with that conclusion, is that the people in front of her slowed it way down. Actually, they slowed it down, sped up, slowed it down, etc.
Truly, her best chances at PR’ing might have been just to go out and try and even split, running to the maximum of her fitness, like she has already done numerous times previously this year, starting with cross-country. But she would not have learned as much as she did racing, instead of time-trialing, today.
She will still need improvement in speed in order to have a shot medaling on the world stage. And I don’t think improving her speed was the focus competing in the NCAA this year, particularly with past injury issues.

True, but why bother to run races at all? Just hand out medals based on pr and we save a lot of hassle.
Many young and first time Olympians run poorly. See Wilson in 4x400, Mackay 1500, Wilson 800 etc. In hot humid weather, Valby ran within 8 sec of her pr and finished 11th. At worst that is right on expectations.
Let's see how she develops over next 4 years when she will be 25 for LA.
You sound like a complete dick, or a useless troll. A 'complete choke job' would have been running say, 32:00 or something like that. She ran 9 seconds off her PR in a very unevenly split race, in her first Olympics, in the type of pack running she's not used to yet as she has basically ZERO international experience. Seems to me she did very very well, but there are always going to be pinheads out there; this is LRC after all.
I am serious. Did Hocker choke his firt final? No. Neither did Fisher. Neither did Nuguse. Neither did Kessler. They all PR'd. They all had zero international experience and showed out. There was nothing impressive about her race other than she was in the race.
Hocker, Nuguse, Fisher have zero international experience?!?!?! Do you even follow this sport? Holy crap. What I'm saying is she didn't CHOKE. CHOKING would have been running 32:00, a complete bust, which is what you're saying. She ran perfectly fine, didn't set the world on fire, but it was a fine outing for her first international race. Get a grip and get a handle on your facts please.
