It will be interesting if we get to see both Morgan and Schweizer in the Olympic Final. Morgan is 26 and Schweizer is 28; LA ‘28 is not guaranteed.
Kelati probably could have made the 5000m team.
Valby is 21. Tuohy is 22.
Wayment is 25.
Henes is 25. Donaghu is 26. Morgan is 26. Kelati is 27.
Schweizer is 28.
Andrews is 28.
Cranny is 28.
ESP is 29.
Interesting that there are no competitive 23 or 24 yr-olds in the above list.
Will McClean (28) or Mackay (26) of Boston New Balance move up to the 5000m in the next year or two? Any others of note not on the list?
Any of those that are 28 or older will most probably not be running in the next Olympics except for a chance in the marathon which I can’t see them wanting to do. The young superstars will be taking over
A minor isn't a child. You may not realise that there isn't only one day's difference between childhood and adulthood.
This isn't correct. In English speaking countries, a child generally refers to a minor.
You are factually incorrect. Just admit it and move on. Hammy is right.
Try telling a 17 year-old they are a "child". Being a "minor" is simply a legal term that defines limitations on rights and responsibilities to a given age; it doesn't define or describe the stages of human development from infancy to adulthood. If you think a minor is a "child" until 18 then you can see no difference between a 2 year- old, a 10 year-old or a 17 year-old. In fact the law draws distinctions before adulthood because it will provide for criminal responsibility after a given age in childhood. You and other posters are misguidedly fixed on a legal term when the issue is about developmental stages.
It isn't an issue of legal rights. A child doesn't leave some kind of chrysalis on their 18th birthday to become an adult. The reason adulthood is granted at that age is precisely because an individual will have gone through stages of human development to achieve that status.

You have made pedophile jokes here, and now you write several posts trying to justify why, to you, an under-18 is not a child...
Yeah she went like 72/70, which is not a fast close for her. Against this field it was fine. But positively, compared to the race where she set her 15:03 PR she looked way less tired. And coming by from injury seems like a good sign.
If she doesn't drop some major PRs by September though, she needs to seriously think about dumping this coach and moving away from NC state, to altitude. Steelman and Shaw are continuing to run pretty much the same times they did in college, little to no improvement. I hate to see Tuohy's talent wasted. Her last great performances were a year and a half ago.
I am looking for a meet in which she might find a 5000 with the right competition and I am coming up short unless she can get into a Diamond League field somehow (and it isn't too fast) which seems questionable to me. The Continental Tour meets are indicating 3000s and no 5000s as far as I can see. (9/1 Poland, 9/3 Denmark, 9/3 Italy, 9/8 Italy, 9/8 Croatia). So perhaps temper expectations for a 5000 pr as the available race distance may be 1500 or 3000. The next fast 5000 opportunity might be this winter at BU.
Wow, that seems crazy there may not be a good 5,000 until Indoor at BU!

I believe she should be able to get into a DL meet with her agent. Keith, Henes, Morgan and others have all run DL without having broken 15 first. Keith got in last year with a much slower PR.
However - Tuohy said in her post race interview that she will be traveling to Europe with the same crew as for this meet plus maybe Henes, which I assume is Steelman, Bush, Shaw . I wonder which meet will take them all brcause I don't see them all getting to run at a DL together.

Say no more...
No, I haven't made pedophile jokes unless you think saying Jerry Lee Lewis married his 13 year old cousin - which is a fact - is a "pedophile joke". But I do get that you can't tell the difference between a 2 year-old, a 10 year-old and an 18 year-old.

That is the quandary they might face. But a lot of 1500 or 3000 opportunities. There is a 5000 in Great Britain 8/10 but unclear what level (Challenger Level meet). Also the words on Henes seem troubling if her schedule is that unclear.
I don’t think they are necessarily going to all go to the same meet
I think they are probably traveling over/staying together and seeing what races each can get into.
Most of the training groups (OAC, bowerman, etc) will have a central training location like st moritz and then individuals will travel to whatever meets are available to them.

I’ve got three daughters. I have no issue telling my 17 year old she is a child still. Do you have children?
Yes. Very odd that he is trying to justify that a 16 year old female is not a child. I merely pointed out that Leachman is already in the mix having run the trials as a child. There was no hidden intent in my message but he sure went out of his way to try to claim that she isn't a child. I have children in high school. Our school publishes reports that list how many children are in the district. Some are 18. They have other types of stats where they refer to them as children. Bottom line is that a 16 year old is faster than nearly all 23 and 24 year olds in the US. If people are looking to the future, look at some of the high schoolers.

So you see no difference in your daughter at age 2 or 10 or 17. So why are there even age categories in school sports and junior sports? Mats Wilander was a Grand Slam champion at age 17, Michael Chang at 17, Bjorn Borg at 18, and Cassius Clay (Muhammad Ali) was Olympic light heavyweight champion at 18. So they were just children?

A child is 12 or under. At 16 she is a young woman, even if still a minor in law. My reason for pointing that out is that there are those her age who are competing as adults and accomplishing adult achievements in sports - like Quincy Wilson, or before him, Mats Wilander and Michael Chang.

Hmmm... Yet I have the funny feeling that several years ago you were claiming that high-schooler KT was finished.
