I was hoping Mu would come out full of piss and vinegar and put in a performance to show everyone what they'll be missing out on in Paris.
Turns out, all it did was confirm that even if she had made the US team, I doubt she'd be running the sort of times she'd need to challenge for the big one anyway.
She's probably the most naturally gifted 800m athlete of her generation, but she's by no means the smartest or the most dedicated. You combine Hodgkinson's focus, discipline and race craft with Mu's natural talent and that athlete would probably break the WR over the next 1-2 years.

She's an Olympic and World Champion. You don't just roll out of bed and do that. That literally requires world-class dedication and discipline.
Look, this thread is so stupid and so emblematic of the problems of this board. Even if you ignore the barely veiled misogyny and racism, it's really just a bunch of mid-level runners who wish they were better who are mad because they've convinced themselves that if they were, they would love it and be the perfect ambassador and athlete to the world. They're just pissy that Athing is gifted and they're not, simple as.
The hilarious thing about these jealous losers that they'd never, ever say it to her face or anything close. They'd fawn all over her and meanwhile she wouldn't spit on them if they were on fire. It's easier to kick her while she's down with injuries or knows what else than it is to rationalize that they're untalented, ungifted, mediocre runners who don't matter.
Have you ever considered the fact that she is simply not in good shape right now. It is pretty evident that she was most likely not going to make the Olympic team. She’s an extremely talented athlete but this is not her year. Accept it.

Mu has Olympic Gold,World Championship Gold. Hodgkinson has neither, doesn’t even have Commonwealth Gold when she was overwhelming favorite. She will come away from Paris still looking for one.

Athing Mu didn't look like she wanted to be at this meet. She looked grumpy and sad before it started, and gave up in the last 100m.
I don't know if she's going to get her passion for running back.
Yes. Before the start I said she looks miserable. Not sure if she’s still pissed about the trials. But once the race started it looked like she was just miserable
Pissed or not, she blew it in the trials. Stop cutting in. Either way she can quit for all I care. Keely would have beat her badly in Paris either way. Mu and Kersee is not a good match.
There were 20 players in the NFL younger than her. Should we be compassionate when they screw up? How about when they aren't in the mood to try? How about when their feelings are hurt?
Yes. We should. The first half of your 20's is a challenging time for a lot of people. I think most young people deserve compassion as they go through the trials of figuring their lives out. Just because you are a supremely talented athlete does not mean that the other parts of your life are magically problem free. Mu went through a tough break up last year, and that can be devastating at that age.
I think "not in the mood to try" is an incorrect assumption. You can try as hard as you want, but if you are injured there is only so much you can do. It is also normal to not be 100% when you are working through something difficult in your personal life. Does not mean you aren't trying. The young woman I saw walk off the track sobbing in Eugene obviously cared very much. It is easy to look at her from the outside and say whatever you think, but none of us know what it is like to be her. Chances are it's more challenging than you would think.

You are being far more gentle than you need to be. It's a bunch of no talent incel dudes getting mad because Mu would wash them over any distance.
It's beyond hilarious that they're calling an Olympic and World Champion entitled, when they're the ones who are pissing their diapers because they feel entitled to her performance and her effort.
One is attractive, one talks about a future professional career in modeling. Guess which is which?
I'm still a big fan of hers. She was a joy to watch in the ncaa and after. We really have no idea what's going on with her and should show more support for the athletes when they are struggling. Seriously.
To miss the Olympics because of a fall must really weigh heavy on her right now. But for future major events Mu tactics must change. Mu's naturally long stride doesn't allow for traditional running to the inside lane in a group. It goes against conventional strategies but Mu should stay on the outside until later in the race when the field narrows down and the leaders begin gapping the field. It was her strategy in college and she needs to get back to it. Or she will have a series of falls like Morgan Uceny that fell repeatedly at the majors and we never got to see her ferocious kick for an Olympic medal. Uceny appeared to have the talent for a medal but we never got the chance to witness it due to falls from contact. Mu needs to be coached to stay on the outside of the groups the first lap. Or she'll suffer repeated falls on major races because the talent gets too desperate and anxious and they will push shove or run up too close behind you causing a trip. Mu's long stride doesn't suit well for cutting through a group to get to the inside lane.
