I have a serious problem with this paragraph/narrative from the SI article:
"Mu, an 800-meter specialist and the gold-medal winner in Tokyo, was spiked in the event’s final at U.S. Olympic Trials. She fell, rose and finished. But she didn’t qualify for the Olympics and thus, appealed to USA Track and Field (USATF) officials, arguing that she was illegally clipped by another runner on the backstretch of the first lap."
No she wasn't spiked. She tried to make a move toward lane 1 from the outside of lane 2 and, in doing so, her left calf rubbed Rogers's right knee which pushed Mu's left foot inwards and kicked the back of her right calf with her own left foot. Nobody spiked her. She veered into another runner and pinched her own legs together. She's not a victim here.
And she wasn't illegally clipped. She's a terrible tactician who lacks spacial awareness, regular race experience, and has become a liability to the whole field.
And why should we care if she doesn't care? She was so quick to talk about how much she didn't want to be in Budapest last year and how she couldn't wait to leave and stop thinking about track and field. Now she's fighting to go to Paris. Keep that same energy.
You can wait 4 more years, Athing. Go team USA and go Keely.
