So what? The best makes more than enough money, there are lots of athletes that would gladly take a sport at the Diamond league. If SML dont want to race I rather want to watch someone who will. This devolving into SML arm-wrestling some shot putter before racing each other in an untimed 3000m race, before SML can raise the Louisiana Lions trophy is just not worth it. Its not track and field.
I really don't think this has to ruin the Diamond League. The Diamond League is held in Europe and there are a lot of Americans/Jamaicans (like SML) who'd rather race domestically or in the US. For the most part, the Diamond League doesn't cover itself in glory when it comes to sprint events for this reason. This League should focus on America/Jamaica-based sprinters and middle distance runners by having 2 US meets, maybe a Jamaica meet and a London meet. We really don't need world class athletes competing in college meets or podunk Bronze/Challenge meets.
Ultimately, the Diamond League can still provide a pretty similar product incorporating European and African-based middle distance runners, 400/400H runners, and picking their spots with the sprinters that do like to travel a bit more. Most of the athletes based in the US who run middle-distance/distance are barely good enough to get into a DL field anyway.
