Unless you were left back, or in private school, if you were born any time in 2006, you are a legitimate senior. Some of these kids will still be 17 for their first semester of college.

Why wouldn't you redshirt your child in kindergarten? It has no downsides and only benefits, especially if you want them to be an athletic recruit - HUGE difference in possible times between a 16 year old junior (let's say May 2000 if this was 8 years ago) running times in April of his junior year vs a 17 or 18 year old junior (let's say March or April 1999)

Let me end this thread. Sadie will NOT be eligible for the U20 Championships in track her freshman year. That is unusual because she is a year older then the minority of her grade. She obviously was held back for reasons unknown. In California she should definitely be graduated HS this year. She still an amazing runner, but her 8th grade record I agree should not count. But who really cares about 8th grade records. More importantly she should be a grade ahead of where she is currently. It’s none of our business the reasons she was held back.

Seniors are 17 turning 18.

It all comes down to when your birthday is. For me, the earliest could be July 1st, with the latest being June 30th. Meaning that, for C/O 2024 for example, the kids born July 1 would be the oldest, while June 30th kids being the youngest.

Once it becomes July 1st again, the cycle repeats for the following class

I was born in October ‘82 and graduated May ‘01 so I was not eligible for U20 championships in track as a college freshman. This is true for millions of kids born July-December.
